I looked out over the back gate last night calling the cats and WOW! Little did I know what surprises were waiting there in my back yard! The tiny peach plant someone gave me in a 5-gal. bucket about 7 years ago, and I planted in the back yard (it's about 5' tall now) is in full bloom, LOTS of blooms! Then next to it a little ways over is the tiny plum sprout I pulled out of the ground at the lake, brought home, planted and nurtured it about 3-4 years ago (about 8 1/2-10' tall now!) is also full of blooms! How pretty! I need to get pictures this weekend and also I need to buy some fruit tree spray so I can get some fruit from them this year.
I have a Training class to attend this morning so I'll go in later than usual. That is 'E. Ditsy's' ploy to save charging mileage to the College, plan your meetings, etc. for first thing in the morning and go straight there, then to the office or plan it for later afternoon and go home from there. No back and forth from the office so no mileage. Okay, it costs more to lose the labor costs but she doesn't see it that way so we're happy to oblige her.
After the class I'll head to the office in time to go to the Retirement lunch so effectively I won't get but about 3 working hours at my desk today. I NEED about 20 hrs. straight at my desk with no phone calls and no emails to get abreast of things!
The class I went to yesterday afternoon (at our campus, so no driving) was to learn the new instant messaging system being installed college wide. It's an encrypted system only effective on College computers but the darned thing is scary! Eventually we'll have web cams and all of it will be tied in to new phones, all of which will enable us to have web meetings but will also tell everyone when you're away, or unavailable, etc. During the training when they would tell everything 'we'd' be able to do with it, I kept thinking, "I'm glad I'm retiring soon. This sounds SO much like 'Big Brother's watching you!'" Everyone who took it was pretty subdued after class. Yes, it will be great in a lot of instances but, as they can already monitor all our emails, we need to be careful what we scratch, adjust, pick at in the future! They could very easily monitor what we are doing at any given point and that could even be used against you. Like I said, "Scary!"
And life goes on.....
