I can't believe it. Boddington's Brewery, the very place where the Cream of Manchester has been brewed for years... is no more. Now all that remains is a pile of rubble from which the famous trademark tower chimney rises... at least in this photo.
What amazes me even more is, the brewery wasn't far away from where I live. All I needed to do was walk to the end of a main road, turn right and there it was. And I didn't know. Even more and more amazing? It took someone who lives in the USA to actually tell me about it!!! Yes, one of my mates over there emailed me this pic last night.
But all is not lost. It seems the brewery has just upped sticks and relocated to the old Harp Lager brewery in Moss Side so it's still in Manchester by gad. The bottled and tinned stuff now emanates from Wales and Scotland but the important stuff (the draught!!!) is still brewed here in Manchester where it belongs. Long Live Boddington's Bitter; the Cream of Manchester!!! (hic)
