I wrote this up for a friend of mine a few months after I go my Kindle. I still love it and the list is still the same. I have the wi-fi one and haven't wished I got the 3-G one.
PROS:
1. Its very user friendly and quick to learn. I like the highlight and note feature as well because I like to make notes with my thoughts but I hate writing in books. Also if you are interested you can view popular notes and highlights.
2. The screen is great I can read it anywhere and there isn't a glare. Plus I love that its not back-lit I can look at for a long time and not get a headache.
3. There are a lot of free books. Not just out of copyright works either. They are promotional freebies and Amazon also lists the top 100 free books and that list is updated hourly.
4. No touch screen so you don't have to worry about your screen getting all nasty.
5. Some of the books are under $5 making it easier to take risks on new authors. You can also find things like all of works of Mark Twain for under $5 as well.
6. The battery lasts a long time. While I use it to often to get the full month I can usually get 3 weeks out of a charge and it only takes about 30 minutes to charge back up.
7. I like the way you can organize your books into Collections.
8. It saves where you are without you having to do anything. While I haven't tried this feature you can also sync you items so you can read the file on another device without having find your place again.
9. There are sites out there where you can connect with other Kindle users and lend or borrow book files for 7 days.
10. Samples. If you are unsure if you want to try a book there are free samples you can get of the first 2-3 chapters which is nice.
11. Kindle singles, short stories and other critical essay type files that aren't a full book. I haven't found anything in this section that I wanted that over 2.99
CONS: 1. If you are trying to read something that doesn't come from Amazon the formatting can be off. I haven't found a way to convert another type to the file type the Kindle uses.
2. A file can only be lent once though you can read it on to up to 7 devices so if you both got a Kindle and used they were registered on the same account you can share without the 7 day limit.
I have a lot more good things to say about the Kindle than bad. Also there are some great covers on Etsy that I think are better than the Amazon covers. Hope that it helps!
