Personal note, regarding a flaw in my character: when I have extra free time, all I can think of to do with it is sleep.
This morning, I dreamed about standing by a lake on a cloudy day, where rocking chairs were laid out in rows, in the water, the rows becoming gradually more and more submerged, as the water got deeper. In each rocking chair was a teddy bear, or other stuffed animal, in various stages of bedragglement. As I watched, one of the bears blinked, and adjusted itself, slightly, which was profoundly and inexplicably disturbing.
An old woman approached, her shirt pulled up over her mouth, her hand cupped, as if to avoid sharing air with me. "Are you...you know...DISEASED?"
"Um, no", I replied, totally confused.
"They are." She pointed to the rows of bears in rocking chairs. They all belonged to children, but they caught the DISEASE. The parents made the children bring them here. I guess they just didn't want the children to have to watch as they drowned their favorite friends. Don't worry...you're probably okay. Only the young and the weak can catch it."
And that, my friends, is why I staggered around the house shuddering, and mumbling, "fucking bear BLINKED at me," for much of the latter part of the morning.
