Sad news for British comedy today; producer, writer and performer Geoffrey Perkins was killed in an RTA yesterday morning. Not heard of him? Even if you haven't heard of Hat Trick Productions and Tiger Aspect you've probably enjoyed their output; former director of one, executive producer of the latter. I remember him well from
Radio Active on Radio Four way back in the 80s, but producing is where he really made an impact. Hitchhikers Guide, Father Ted, Ben Elton, Harry Enfield. Folks, he may even have invented
Mornington Crescent; how excellent is that? Then he toddled off to the Beeb to be Head of Comedy for a bit, and gave us The Fast Show, Game On, Coupling, My Family and The Catherine Tate Show. A great big, enormous reservoir of comedy nous has been untimely snatched and I fear we'll all be poorer for his loss.
