How to catch a thief...

I saw a robbery at my neighbour's shop this morning.

It was a couple in their early thirties. It was hard to pin down their age as they'd obviously done some hard living from the look of them. They didn't take much (maybe $20-30 worth of food) but it rattled the storekeepers and myself.

It was a classic grab and run with a little bit of acting thrown in and a waiting getaway car with its number plates covered. I hadn't noticed the car when I went in but now that I know what to look for, I'll be more aware in future.

There were other signs as well. The female thief looked nervous and her hands shook slightly. She seemed in a hurry. The shopkeeper looked a little stressed before it happened - so she had sensed something coming too.

We all ran out after them when it happened but they were really fast. The waiting car was an expensive white landrover. It mystifies me why someone who could afford the car would stoop to robbing. The only thing that makes sense is that the car was borrowed, probably from one of the thieves' relatives. There'd be no sense in covering the number plates of a stolen vehicle, eh?
