Began writing up some lesson plans for a heavy fighter syllabus today.
Against my better inclination, I've continued with the usual assumption that sword and shield should be the starting point. One must gain some basic skills in sword and shield in order to be authorised under the current system, so it does seem most appropriate.
I'm attempting to design six or seven introductory classes that cover the basics and include some "takeaway" drills that can be done by oneself at home.
1)Introduction to Heavy Combat
2)Introduction to the Principals of Fighting
3)Introduction to Offence
4)Introduction to Defence
5)Introduction to Guards
6)Introduction to Feints
I'm not seperating out footwork at this point. I'd rather teach it as an integrated concept to begin with.
Following this there will be the Series II classes that feature "improved" versions of various aspects of the introductory classes. These will have names like:
Improved Defence I
Improved Defence II
Improved Offence I
Improved Feints I
Improved Movement I
Improved Timing I
Improved Drills I
That sort of thing. I imagine that there will be a couple of dozen of these "improved" lessons. They will include mostly paired drills for their physical aspect.

I still haven't managed to find the time or the inclination to improve my fitness and its really getting me down. Once I'm home, all I want to do is flick the computer on and go straight onto online gaming of some sort.
I don't mind going out and training (I'm running college Heavy Training twice a week as my shift work allows) but its all pretty much instructional rather than physical stuff at the moment. I haven't even gotten them into Can yet.
I'm seriously considering doing another martial art just for the fitness benefits. The last time I was doing regular Kung Fu, I couldn't get above 105kg. Now I'm hovering around 116kg all the time. Still, it begs the question, when will I find time to do this - without having to give up College Training or something else, like my one night of roleplaying per week?
I feel like I'm coming to another crossroads in my life and I'm not particularly looking forwards to it. I hope things look better when I'm on the other side of it. :)
