Dear Yuletide letter

Oct 04, 2016 10:31

Dear Yuletide author,

To start, I would like to thank you so much for volunteering to write me a story. I am very much looking forward to receiving your gift. It's always one of the best parts of Christmas, reading my yuletide story for the first time, and I can't wait to do it again this year. So once again, thank you so much.

In regards to my story preferences, I'm generally fairly laid back and have a wide variety of likes and interests so you're welcome to go in almost any direction with the stories (even the optional details I've listed are just optional, and I don't have my heart set on them so you're welcome to do something else)

Things that I tend to like -

Strong Characterization. (I really like well written characters with emotional depth)

Well developed relationships (I am a sucker for really strong relationships, whether platonic or romantic, I really enjoy reading about people who care deeply for one another)

Angst (Particularly angst with a happy ending, or at least a satisfying pay out rather than just angst for the sake of it.)

Sass (Very very fond of comedy even within a serious story.)

History (I am a huge history nerd, and I love it when stories incorporate history)

Families of choice (love this trope so much)

Things I don't like -

I am not fond of gratuitous violence or unnecessary death. If the story earns it, sure, but not just for the sake of having it.

Character bashing

Body Horror

I am happy with any rating, so you're welcome to be as G rated or as NC-17 as feel comfortable with. I am also happy with any genre, so you can make it gen, romantic, scifi, whatever appeals to you and works with the story you want to write.

As for my specific requests -

Request 1-
The Mummy
Characters - Ardeth Bay, Rick O'Connell, Evy Carnahan O'Connell, Jonathan Carnahan

I would like a story that deals heavily with the reincarnation themes were touched on in the movie, and the interplay between the past and the present. I would particularly like to see Rick in the past as a Magi and his relationship with Ardeth Bay. I would also see the rest of the family involved and the larger picture between them in both time periods.

I have a ridiculous soft spot in my heart for these movies and I particularly enjoy stories that take place in both the Egyptian past and the movie present. As I mentioned above, I really enjoy families of choice and I feel that this fandom has that in spades. Having said that, I will enjoy whatever you write, so feel free to go whether the inspiration takes you.

Request 2 -

The Newsies Musical
Characters - Spot Conlon, Racetrack Higgins

Spot and Racetrack were my favourite characters in the movie, but I was a little disappointed at how underdeveloped they were in the musical. I'd like a fic that explores their characters more fully within the musical setting.

I have been a huge fan of the movie for my entire life and I enjoyed the musical, but it was like all of my favourite characters were not represented well. Not gonna lie, I was also really disappointed in David's character and the fact that we don't see Sarah at all. So I would mainly love a story that fixes that. Give them more focus, flesh them out a bit more, within the newer musical setting. Strong characterizations and well developed relationships are my favourite things in this particular fandom.

Or, you know, whatever else you want to write is cool too. I'm good with whatever. I like the Newsies and I enjoy more stories about them.

Request 3 -

Fame (1980)
Characters - Doris Finsecker, Ralph Garci, Montgomery MacNeil

I love these three drama nerds. Their friendship is my favourite. I am a bit of a Ralph/Montgomery shipper and enjoy all the angst, agony, and amazing that goes with that. I also love strong portrayals of Doris and how she's grown as a character. Really anything with the three of them would be great.

To put into perspective my love of the Ralph/Montgomery ship, I actually slowed the movie down to a crawl so that I could see definitively whether or not Ralph actually kissed Montgomery at the end (notably, he did...and then looked sad when Montgomery laughed it off...and then didn't show up to graduation) If you would rather go in a more gen/friendship direction with this, that would be cool too. I'm mainly just interested in strong relationships between the characters, regardless of what shape those relationships take. This film also falls into the category of fandoms with strong found family elements and a focus on strong relationships...all of which I love.

There isn't really any particular plot I have in mind for this one, so the sky is the limit...and as I said before, I will be happy with anything you write, so have fun with it.

I hope that this letter finds you well and that you have as great a time working on this story as I will have reading it.

Have a very happy Yule, and I'll look forward to writing you directly once the story is finished.

Sincerely,

Dani
