A new old car.

We've bought a new old car which we will take delivery of on Wednesday. It's good to be done with the Sentra. All in all it was a disappointment. Nissan is supposed to be decent quality but it didn't hold true for us. Nipponese cars seem to be having a run of bad luck in our social circle.

Our "new" vehicle is a 2001 Buick LeSabre. We had two main criteria: price and size. Our research had shown that large sedans got better gas mileage than SUVs or mini-vans (mini-vans get horrific gas mileage, with very few exceptions) and they tend to run cheaper, so that's where we ended up. We got it at the same dealership we've been fighting with for months over the Sentra. They finally realized they had a customer service problem and cut us a good deal on a trade-in.

Is it ideal? Nope. We were not ready to buy a new car, but when your old one craps out how much choice do you really have? But it is a functioning car that we could buy without taking out a loan. (I'll pay interest on a house. The rest of the American debt-driven lifestyle can go fuck itself. Yes, I feel that strongly about it.) And although American cars don't have a great reputation for quality, after our experience with Nissan I'm willing to challenge my stereotypes.
