An attractive female can liven things up.
You can set a SF story in rural England.
You don’t always need to wear the sensawunda on your chest.
Victory can come as a decision to stand against unstoppable power, even though the character cannot win. The victory is the decision to remain true to yourself.
Metaphors are OK, and not just the domain of English teachers.
Well, these are some things I’ve learned. Probably obvious things to a lot of experienced writers. But I’m still getting my experience. And thank god for eBay, for bringing me these wonderful obscure collections.
I had a vivid dream last nigh. These fat, squat bodied sharp beaked bastard turkey birds were flying over a camp site (refugee camp?), floating at times in the air, to eat other, smaller birds. One of these greedy buggers bit off more than he could chew, then tried to do a spin in the air, splitting it’s body in half in slow motion as I watched. It’s watery blood spilled all over the camp site, and it’s ruined body landed on a nearby tent.
I’m pretty sure this creature will wind up in a later chapter.
Anyway, time to get going. 3k again today. I did an outline for what I believe will be the first 3rd of the novel, an I’ve stuck to it. But I’m going to have to spend a couple of days outlining parts two and three soon, so I’ll need to factor in that later down the line.
Cheers.
