Place: 371 out of 555 athletes. I have never beaten so many collegiate athletes in a race. Usually I'm way toward the back.
Time: 2:44:23 -- a personal record, by four minutes and eleven seconds, which I did last summer at Folsom.
Swim: 41:06 -- a horrible time. It was almost two minutes better than Folsom, but a minute worse than last Nationals.
First Transition: 1:40 -- not sure if it was my best T1 ever, but it was still a pretty good time.
Bike: 1:16:35 -- a personal record, by almost a minute. Since I was so far behind after the swim, I was passing A LOT of people in this portion of the race.
Second Transition: 1:31 -- the only other shitty part of my race besides the swim. I knocked somebody else's bike off the rack and probably lost 30 seconds re-racking it.
Run: 43:32 -- I didn't meet my goal of finishing in under 40 minutes, but I still set a personal record by 31 seconds. I also passed a fair number of people during this part of the race.
So, all in all, I set many personal records Saturday morning, probably more than what I've listed. I think I'm on the cusp of being good at this sport, provided I take swimming lessons this summer. I'm planning to do Folsom again, this August, and I think it's totally within reason that I could finish between 2:15 and 2:20, provided I train properly.
When I get the time and motivation, I'll craft a less numeric entry about my experiences this past week.
