(no subject)
Hello Livejournal! It's been so long since my last post. And yet, not a whole lot has changed, except time. I am still set to leave July 24th, our moving truck is coming the 20th, and my last day at the Debra T. Thomas Learning Center is the 14th. This means I have 4 weeks of work and 5 weeks til we move. It's been very very stressful lately, but things are finally falling into place.
I was offered a job at the Rose Warren Empowerment School in western Las Vegas. I will be teaching students in first through third grade who are on their writing track. The school is set up with students of a few different grades in the same room on the same track. There are several different tracks - writing, math, science, musical/artistic, and physical/spacial. There may be one or two more that I left out, but I can't remember. I felt an instant connection with the principal and assistant principal, the school is in a good part of the city (I found out later from an apartment company that the western part is the "Beverly Hills" of Las Vegas), and it is a different ('cutting edge' as Ben says) kind of school. It sounded like a great fit for me and it is a great career move, so I'm happy. Also, I have 5 extra contract days and their school days are 29 minutes longer than other schools, so I'm getting a 9.6% 'stipend' on top of my salary. So that is awesome too!
I'm pretty sure we're going to get our dream apartment. It's in eastern/central part of the city, but it's only a 10 minute drive for Ben to UNLV and only 20 minutes for me to my school. We fell in love with the floorplans and extras that this apartment complex had, but it was just a tad over our price range, but the water/sewer/trash bill is included, which makes up for the overshot in price range. It's gorgeous and I love it - I just wish we could see it in person first, but oh well. We looked at literally hundreds of apartments and both of us just fell in love with this one. It's got a big balcony, huge picture window in the living room, full size washer and dryer, a GIANT walk-in closet, ceiling fans... it's just wonderful. Best of all, it's a 2 bedroom, so you all can come visit us!! Anyway, I'm supposed to find out tomorrow or Monday if we get it.
I have started the horrible process of packing. Why do I have so much CRAP? I've gotten rid of so much stuff, but I still feel like I have tons of just JUNK. While the packing is overwhelming and tedious, I have found it to be somewhat cleansing. I'm purging all this stuff that I no longer want/need. It feels good to say good bye to a chapter of my life to make room for the next. I just wish it didn't take so much time!
The pre-school is going wonderfully. I'm really enjoying it there and it will be hard to say good bye. We've already started telling the kids that Miss Brianna will be leaving. They're not happy about it, but they don't bring it up constantly yet. Ms. Mindy is really worried about some nutjob replacing me. But let's face it - - no one could top me!! hehe. We do work really well together though, and i love the kids so much. I'll be making the best of these next 4 weeks.
