too cute to hurt
Taehyung is a little clumsy. She walks funny sometimes, bumps into table edges and gets told to sit down and listen to what everyone else is saying way too often. But the one fact no one could ever deny about Taehyung is that she can be very sneaky as well.
She sneaks the last few bottles of almond milk from the canteen fridge for herself and her friends when everyone else is waiting in a line for the canteen lady to tell them there isn’t anymore left. She only remembers Seokjin's list of video games she reccommends when she's in class; sneakily turning on her DS screen and preteneding to listen every few minutes or so. She sneaks out almost every night with jimin to crash at Hoseok’s with the rest of her friends, even when her mother confiscates her phone for not studying enough.
She’s also the best at sneaking kisses from her friends, full on the lips because it’s soft and warm and she absolutely loves the way it feels. Hoseok’s the only one who’s so casual about it. Hoseok doesn’t scowl or pull away too quickly like Namjoon or Jimin does. Hoseok returns the kiss with a smack; like delivering the punchline to the joke because they both laugh after. Because Taehyung is Hoseok’s cute best friend who deserves to be kissed sweetly, even just a little for now, until she finds someone she wants to kiss for real, exclusively.
She gets away with all of it.
Taehyung’s kissed each one of her friends, (once bitten jungkook on the lips and that totally counts) everyone but Yoongi. ‘Yoongi is scary’ is an excuse that gets old. Yoongi is scary, but that’s not why Taehyung’s never tried to kiss her. The second that mere thought crosses her mind, Taehyung feels her brain go oozy, her face heating up, her throat dry. Yoongi could either love her or hate her, and she couldn’t bear any of those things. It could make her heart fly apart if it was either. “My heart is too fragile for this.” She often tells Hoseok, ears red and tears threatening to fall out of her eyes.
This however, doesn’t stand in her way of sneaking Yoongi small favours she’s never asked for. Like getting her her favourite melon bun on Mondays. Or making sure the teacher doesn’t notice her dozing off the entire time during the morning assembly. She also makes sure to pluck out confession letters boys stuff into her unnie’s locker.
“It’s creepy.” Jimin comments, and Taehyung scowls. Who does stupid Jimin thinks she is anyways? It’s not like she’s the one having three new crushes every week like Jimin does.
“It’s not creepy, it’s cute.” Hoseok says, petting Taehyung’s pale-pink hair. “Leave her alone, Jimin.”
“Ugh, whatever. You shouldn’t be supporting this, unnie.” Jimin says accusingly, “But like.. it’s you two, so I don’t really understand. I just don’t want to see Tae get hurt.”
“It hurts anyways.” Taehyung sighs, guiding Jimin’s hand to feel her chest, “Right here. It hurts.”
Jimin’s eyes well up with tears, “You’re too cute to hurt,” And Hoseok nods.

It’s Friday night, they’ve all chosen to go out to this restaurant Seokjin gushes over all the time. Except, the plan is, they’re all going to let Taehyung and Yoongi alone. At first Hoseok says she has to use the restroom, Jimin receives a call from that boy she’s been talking about all week (which is like, nice save! She's been obsessing about getting a valid and not totally obvious excuse ever since Seokjin came up with the plan.) Namjoon cancels from the beginning because ‘come on it would seem suspicious if we all just bailed during their date’ to which Seokjin bubbles over the fact that ‘we’re calling it their date already’.
At the table, now, Taehyung is making weird faces at Jungkook because she has no idea what is going on with everyone and it seems suspicious that only her, Yoongi, and Jungkook are the only ones sitting here after Seokjin excuses herself without bothering to say where she’s going.
“Uh, it’s weird how Seokjin-unnie just left without saying anything. I am going to go find out what’s wrong..” And with that, it’s just the two of them. Jungkook skipping away the way Seokjin went, her long black hair swaying behind her.
Taehyung and the one girl’s she never had eye contact with without her whole face heating up, or her heart pounding against her chest are sitting right across from each other. And it’s making her entire being fill up with nerves, heart too fast, too loud. “Don’t try to escape,” She whispers down at it, and she could feel the heat radiating off her face when Yoongi tugs at her sleeve.
“What’s wrong?” She asks, and it sends Taehyung in a frenzy because she can’t tell what Yoongi is feeling or thinking right now. If she actually cares or not. If she could hear how loud her stupid heart is beating for her. It’s too overwhelming and the world blurs in her eyes, tears filling up her eyes, and fists clenching on the table.
“You, unnie.” She blurts out, and refuses to say another word, lips curling up, whimpering as she slowly looks up at Yoongi who’s expression is hard to read because she’d never had it before. She thinks about what Jimin said you’re too cute to hurt and it’s like for just a few seconds she resents Yoongi for all of it. It hurts how much she wants to kiss her but she can’t. It hurts never knowing what you really mean to someone, if you mean anything at all. It hurts being so uncertain and she doesn’t know where to go from here, so she just breaks into tears, doesn’t want to look at Yoongi’s face anymore. Won’t look at her face.
But then, Yoongi’s hands are on hers, she’s leaning against the table her face only a few inches away from Taehyung’s but even this close Taehyung doesn’t know what to expect, what to make of all this mess. Yoongi’s eyes bore into hers for a whole second before she presses her lips against Taehyung’s urgently.
“Please..” she blurts out, between kisses she keeps planting onto Taehyung’s lips “please,” a kiss so long, that the next word comes out short of breath “..stop crying,”
Yoongi brings her hands up, cupping Taehyung’s face, and looking into her eyes with so much hurt Taehyung almost wants to start crying again. “I couldn’t bear it.”
She leans back into her chair then, her hand holding Taehyung’s on the table, because it wouldn’t be right to let go then. She needs Taehyung to know she won’t let her be alone, she won’t let her cry like this anymore.
And Taehyung. Taehyung, for the life of her, can not believe she’s just been kissed by Yoongi. Yoongi has kissed her on the lips and it was sweet and reassuring and nothing like she’d ever expected. Her world didn’t come crumbling down and her hands aren’t shaking anymore. Her lips feel tingly, and she touches them so delicately as if careful not to erase the traces of Yoongi’s lips on them.
“And please don’t kiss the others with those lips anymore. They’re all disgusting. Especially Hoseok. The most disgusting, actually.”
Then there is it, Taehyung’s huge smile. She’s all giddy and her cheeks are tinged with pink when she leans over the table to sneak a kiss at Yoongi. “Just you, then.” she says.
