Gonna climb a mountain, mountain, mountain. Gonna climb a mountain...

In about three and a half hours (which is to say, at about 1:30am), we'll be embarking on our ascent of Adam's Peak (or Sri Padha, in Sinhala). The tradition is that you make the climb overnight and get up to the peak in time to view the sunrise. In addition, your first time is considered to be a promise to return, which means you don't get to ring the bell at the top. If you go up a second time, however, you get to ring it twice and then every time you ascend after that, you get to ring the bell for as many times as you have made the climb.

Legend has it that the top of the mountain bears the footprint of Buddha. Although Hindus claim it's actually Siva's footprint and Christians claim that it's actually Saint Thomas' footprint. You know how it goes...

You don't actually get to see the footprint, though, as it has been covered up and a shrine placed over it, to protect it. Hmmm.
However, apparently the sunrise is spectacular, so I'm looking forward to that. According to the guidebook, the interesting thing about the shadow cast by the mountain in the morning sun is that it's a perfect triangle which doesn't reflect the actual shape of the mountain.

ANYWAY, if I survive the climb, I'm sure I'll rave to you all about it at some later date!

Hope you're all well.

Have a good day or night, all.
