He peered around the trunk of a tree, watching the rabbits forage in the light blanket of snow. He watched them, wondering how it was that they did not recognize him as predator. He had to smell like every other creature that stalked them in this bit of forest.
Didn't he?
He was still trying to work out all the details of his contract with Cern. He had no idea what made him change some nights, but not others. He did not know why he could sneak up on some prey, but not others. And he certainly hadn't the faintest idea what the next day would bring.
A year ago, if someone had told him this would become his life, he would have told them it was impossible. Now, he was starting to wonder if there was any way he could get his old life back. The impossible is not all it is cracked up to be, once you start living it.
