Lu Ann and I finished our 2nd official dance lesson at Arthur Murray's Dance studios out in Henrietta yesterday. So far our instructor Emily has walked us through basic steps and spins in rumba, waltz, tango, cha-cha, swing, and has touched on some others mixed around. We're also learning more and more about the intricacies or moving around a crowded dance floor and such. It's alot of fun, and it's opened up a whole new avenue or activities to do together, rather than just the normal night outs to movies and dinner. Emily tells us that Lu Ann and I learn very quickly that that we should do well here. We only get to go once a week (Saturdays) because of my school and Lu Ann's working, but I'm hoping that the situation will rectify itself once school stops this summer.
Emily asked us to think about how long Lu Ann and I want to take lessons. We're not really hoping to be good enough to win competitions or anything. While it would be cool if we could show off now and then, we're really just in it for the fun. Emily explained that by 3 to 4 months we'd essentially know enough to be able to dance to just about any kind of music that we'd normally hear, and that to become the type of dancers that steal the spotlight and have tons of moves to keep things fresh and creative and interesting, usually amounts to 3 to 4 years of time.
I'll probably be out or Rochester by then... I dunno. Probably somewhere in the middle.
