Eurgh. There are no signs of any kind of joined up thinking from this government I'm afraid.

I'm sorry you're one of the people getting screwed over by their uselessness :-(

The timing is also suspicious/unhelpful - immediate loss of money that organisations had relied on when most of them will have already planned their new academic year provision. It's not like they're even saving very much, only £45 million, which is peanuts in government terms.

JFC, that is...I'm going to start with criminally stupid and move on from there. (And wow, do I have my fingers crossed that our Conservative government finally goes down in flames with this fall's elections because I'm not looking forward to another four years of the same kind of nonsense in Canada either.)

It's just ridiculous and so ill-considered. I mean austerity in general sucks, but to do something that is actually actively contradicting your own stated policies? The mind boggles...

Hopefully you have more of an opposition than we currently have - Labour are basically ToryLite at the moment and likely to stay that way unless things change dramatically.

At the moment, it's looking like we have a good shot at a real socialist government. The Conservatives pushed through a heinous anti-terror bill that even their supporters hate, and the stupid Liberals voted for it. The NDP, our most left-leaning party, stood against the bill and are doing well in the polls right now as a result. And since the Conservatives are spending all their energy at the moment attacking the Liberals, the NDP might have an actual shot. Fingers crossed!

I am so sorry.

The current bunch with their austerity measures seem to be completely out of touch.

Hope things improve for you soon.
