It had been a month since Alex and Jack had broken up, and if we were being honest, Alex was a complete mess. He had barely gotten any sleep the past few weeks, barely ate, and rarely got out of the house, unless it was to go to work. So how he ended up at Zack's house, was beyond him. Alex wasn't as fascinated on the video game he and his best friend were playing as much as he normally would have been, and as his character was gunned down by one of his online opponents, he simply set the control down besides him.

"What's wrong with you today?" Zack asked, pausing the game. He turned his attention to Alex, running a hand through his shaggy hair. When the older boy didn't answer, Zack sighed, placing a hand on Alex's knee. "You miss him?"

"More then anything, Zack. That makes me pathetic, doesn't it? I mean, he broke my fucking heart, and he hasn't called, or texted me, or even tried to see how I was doing. He acts like I don't even exist, and yet I miss him." Alex pleaded, finally speaking up for the first time since they exchanged hellos this morning.

"That doesn't make you pathetic, Alex. It makes you human. Honestly, Jack is a fucking idiot for giving you up." Zack assured him, moving his hand back to his own lap. "You were too good for him, and he'll realize soon what he gave up."

"I don't think you're right, Zack. He already has another boyfriend.." Alex sighed, resting his head against the younger boy's shoulder. Okay, so Alex didn't know for sure if the boy he saw Jack with was actually his boyfriend, but he did see them holding hands one day as they walked past the coffee shop in which he worked.

It sucked, seeing Jack be happy with someone who wasn't  Alex. Especially because the older boy didn't imagine it would ever happen; he figured he was the only one Jack would want to be with for the rest of their lives. Cliche, right? Right.

"Alex, listen to me. You're my best friend, and I hate seeing you mope around about some asshole who left you. I mean, I know how much you love Jack, and I understand that you're always going to, but you need to move on. It won't be easy, and I'll be there for you when you need some help, but I want you to smile again, Alex. And I mean, really smile. None of that fake crap you've been pulling lately." Zack pleaded, rubbing the older boys arm lightly. "You'll find someone who will treat you better then Jack did, and they'll make you happier then he did. You may not think so now, but it'll happen. I promise."

Alex knew the younger boy was right, but he couldn't imagine being with anyone else but Jack. It scared him how much he depended on the younger boy. It was like Jack was Alex's only reason to smile, and without him, he really had nothing to look forward too.
