Knitting & being crafty

I forgot to mention in my last post that I've started knitting [again]. Alida taught me how a few years back and nothing much ever came of it. I don't even think I finished the scarf I started. Boo. Anyway, I got a ton of really cheap yarn at the Joanne's by my house because the store was closing. I decided to use the yarn to make a scarf. With a little refresher course from Knittinghelp.com I began knitting again. It only took me about two days to knit the entire thing. It took 2 balls of angel hair yarn and is almost 7 feet long. I made quite a few mistakes with the first, but learned from them. As soon as I finished the first scarf I started my second one. That one is already over half way done and I haven't made ANY mistakes so far. ;) It's a perfect 20 stitches on every single row.

Since I'm still a beginner I'm just using the garter stitch for the scarves, which is pretty easy and basic. I have TONS more yarn so I may make my next scarf a bit more "complex" with some pearl stitching. I may even use an actual pattern to make it ;) We will see.

I'm also going to start making my own bar soaps. I decided to start with the "Melt & Pour" type which is very easy and safe for beginners. No lye or harsh chemicals to deal with. June said she's interested in doing it with me so hopefully we can have a fun day soap making together. I think we're going to start with making a "bath-time baby" soap with lavender, oatmeal, and chamomile, since her baby is due around November. Then I'd like to make some vanilla honey soaps and make some facial herbal soaps too. I don't think it will be much cheaper than buying it from the store but I think it will be a fun :)
