Yes it is true...I have finally gotten the chance to celebrate graduation (see JR Robson...I still got to celebrate...Joking!!!).
I took Studenten with my third year class on June 9th and it was awesome! I think everyone should get a chance to celebrate like the Swedish young people celebrate graduation because it is so much fun!
Our day started early with our class picture at 8:15 and miraculously we were all there and it went off without a hitch. Minus the fact that our class was almost too big to fit in the picture and that the photographer didn't know where to put everyone! Which was quite funny!
After our picture we all sat outside and had a little champagne breakfast. It was quite lovely...champagne and strawberries. We also spent time writing in each others Studenten hats. They are the white sailor looking hats. One the band people write their names, program, year etc. Mine says Grace 2002* Röllingby. Inside they have Röllingby Studenten 2006 and then there is blue and yellow satin and everyone writes messages inside them. Way cooler than a yearbook I think!
At about 10:00 we went back into the school and met with our homeroom teachers for the final time. It was kind of sad but fun at the same time. And mostly it felt kind of strange as I wasn't really graduating with as much importance as the rest of my class. This day was the real end for them and for me it was more of an experience and privilage than anything else.
We then went to the cafeteria, which hade been decorated very fancily, and ate lunch. It was cool because they served us our meal family style so it was cool that they really made the effort to make it nice for us.
Lunch was over with lots of time to spare so we took picutres outside and then went to centrum to wait until we could go into the theater for the concert/presentation of awards. This was also quite nice because it was more casual that our stiff awards ceremony and they whole staff was there and had lots of fun as well.
Once we were finished in the theater we gathered outside and made a parade to the school singing the studenten song. It was cool because everyone knows it is going to happen so people are out in the streets watching...hehe.
The parade ended up at the sports hall beside the school where parents, friends and family had taken over the place. It was awesome. Every graduates family makes a big sign and then holds it up so you can find them (usually with a baby picture on it) and then you go to them and they shower you with flowers and necklaces with all sorts of things on them like candy and champagne. I was so surprised when both my host families were there and Phil and I had a sign and everything. We both ended up with lots of flowers and it was awesome!!
After the 'utspring,' which is when you run to your family, was what I think is one of the best parts of studenten! Riding the FLAK with your friends. Now a flak is basically a truck or somekind of vehichle that you and your friends have hired/done yourselves and has big signs and music and trees on it. It is normal for graduates to do this with their freinds or class and then get driven around the town for a couple hours singing and screaming at other flaks and spraying eatch others flak with champagne and beer. I don't have any pics of my flak because my camera died but you can see ones from Phils and a random one with a guy all by himself...which is no fun!
After the flak everyone goes home where their familes are waiting for them and then they have a dinner and such. Then in the evening everyone goes out and celebrates together. My evening was crazy as I had two places I went to afterwards ( my first host family and then my own family as Louise (host sister) also took Studenten the same day) plus all of my things got locked ing the school (Wallet and Mobile!!!) so it was slightly stressful but none the less a wonderful day, evening and night!
