Whenever we got hit with blizzards in NYC, you'd see people taking over their kids sleds to trudge to the nearest store to get... milk and bread. *shrugs* Okay, sometimes eggs too, if there were any left.

That's true everywhere. You can actually tell how bad the storm was by how long the stores are out of bread and milk after they're over.
