They go in threes

Wow, kinda weird that the Pope died today. First Terri and now him. Not to be morbid, but I wonder who the third person will be. I feel the same way I felt after Princess Diana and Mother Teresa died - I guess it's just cause all four of them were very high-profile, and the sudden loss of them leaves a weird void. Makes me wonder, too where the ( Read more... )

Ok, first of all, I know PLENTY, and let me emphasize that again PLENTY, of people who are practicing Catholics that are Christians. And Church of God. And Pentacostal. And Methodist. And so on. I'm not saying anything even related to the fact that "only Baptists can be Christians." I grew up being taught that by my church and school (not my home, mind you), and I TOTALLY DISAGREE WITH THAT!!!! Second, whoever you are, why didn't you email me or something to discuss this rather that blast all over LJ? Obviously you don't know me very well, because if you did, you would know that I was not coming from a "he's Catholic so he can't be saved" train of thought. I'm a little distraught that you think that I am that close-minded. I was simply thinking the same thing I think whenever anyone dies that I do not know well, personally or otherwise. I thought that about Princess Diana, Terri Schiavo, everyone at the Twin Towers, and when President Bush (who is a professing Christian, by the way) dies - God forbid anytime soon - I'll wonder the same thing. I wonder about my family, WHO ARE PROFESSING CHRISTIANS/BAPTISTS. It was a genuine question, for goodness sakes!!!!! I know that no one knows for sure anything that goes on in anyone else's heart; that is something that only they and God know. Whether or not the pope was a believer was a personal choice that he made. No one knows except him and God. And third, as far as doctrine and the evangecube... I think the evangecube is stupid, personally. I think it is probably not very effective at giving the message of the gospel to anyone over the age of 10. And doctrines? I took a doctrinology course in high school and the religion in America course here, not to mention growing up in a Christian school, so in my own defense, I know a lot, not everything by any means, but definitely more than the average college student. I will agree with you, some at the BCM and many other "Christians" have no idea what it means to be Christlike. I am definitely not a shining star in this area, but I do try. And a lot of times, I fail, but I admit that I failed and I strive to do better. But I am not a close-minded little Baptist girl full of sunshine and smiles who believes that nobody other than Bible-thumping Baptists can be Christians on their way to Heaven. If you want to meet those kind of girls, I'll give you their contact info. But I am not one of them. The only reason that I refer to myself as Baptist is that I believe that the ORIGINAL Baptist teachings are the closest to the literal teachings in the Bible. I feel that some other denominations are also based on Biblical teachings, but take them from a different angle. Regardless, there is only one way to eternal life in Heaven with God, and that is through salvation through Christ alone. And that is Biblical, not close-minded or dense. I understand that your first post was an emotional response and I appreciate your apology. If you want to discuss this more, I would be more than happy to. And I promise to not be a dense Baptist.

You know, a lot of people have been saying that I'm paranoid lately. Dunno, sometimes I overthink and overanalyze, which tends to make me jumpy, which is often seen as paranoid. ;)
