Today the governor of MA is visiting our company, along with some state representatives and of course the media. This means we have been prepping the buildings to make sure they are just right. I was talking to the buildings and grounds acting manager and mentioned that I was about to search out the American Flag to put out on the flag pole. It hasn't been out there for some time. He was glad I thought of it. So now the flag is flying on the center pole where it belongs.
There's alot of stress lately. My office mates are stressed because of work, my bon homme is stressed over his job. One of the managers here is stressed out. It's a matter of some people taking pride in their work and wanting to do what they can to make things better. Others don't have the same work ethics, with more of a "they don't pay me enough to care" attitude. My philosophy is that if you have a job at all, then dammit take pride in it. It doesn't matter if you are making minimum wage or six figures a year. Other people depend on you to do your job well, do it on time, and do it with pride. I was raised on this philosophy and is probably why I made it to manager in an industry known for hiring managers only with college degrees even though I don't have one. There are days where I am stressed because I am overwhelmed. I get overwhelmed when I am trying to get things done and other people with don't care attitudes are making it difficult, or worse yet talk to me as if I don't have a clue because I don't have a degree. My boss said in my review yesterday that I have the unique ability to present problems with possible solutions based on things I have seen and done in the 20+ years I have been doing this work. Like I told bon homme last night and this morning, do the best you can, and ask for help when you need it. It will all come out at review time.
Today is asthma attack Thursday. Thank you to the weather gods. Wish I had my car, cause I'd leave at 11:30 today and still have my 40 hours for the week. I can work emails and projects from home. I don't have a car yet though, so I will have to suffer it out.
