Small relatives

Wyatt is a three year old toddler, of some relation to me, who I babysat for about eight hours Thursday. It was a very interesting experience. My mom knew how to talk to him and handle him a whole lot better than I did. But, of course, that is because she is a mom and has had a lot of practice with my brother and myself. He didn't cry, well maybe for a few seconds but he was easily distracted with his new toy train. Wyatt loves Thomas The Tank Engine and even had a DVD which I played for him. I think he heard a few of the stories twice but it didn't seem to bother him because he has a very short attention span and would only really watch for a few minutes before playing with something else. I changed one diaper, go me, all by myself and fed him lunch which he proceeded to make a mess of on the coffee table. I probably shouldn't have given him a fruit cup that has all that syrupy stuff in it, but he didn't eat much of the chicken nuggets that I had heated up in the oven for the both of us.

Yesterday we had two nine year olds, Connor and Colton, a five year old girl, Blakely, and their grandmother (my grandfather's younger sister, who I call Aunt Ann) over for the night before they left for the family reunion today. They came from Arkansas which was quite a long trip. I hadn't seen the boys in a long time, they were probably six the last time I saw them. It was facinating to see how they have matured and grown. The boys are not brothers, but cousins, however they look and act just like their fathers, who are brothers. Blakely is Colton's younger sister who I haven't seen since she was about two so of course she's not going to remeber me. She was very shy at first but after the grownups started to talk about grownup things and the boys went to play online video games (runscape I think it was called) she loved having another girl to talk too. I found the disney channel, which I didn't even know we had, and she told me all about "Thats So Raven" and showed me her notebook where she drew her dogs and fairies. She also had a stuffed white cat doll (who was wearing a pink t-shirt and a jean skirt) that she named Abby.

When hearing that my mom told her how the boys used to call me "Abbie Yo-Yo". The boys have changed so much. When I went down to Arkansas for xmas years ago I always thought that Colton was going to be a troble maker all his life. He had that grin and look in his eye like he wanted to see how far he could push you and then go just a little farther. But now he seems like a pretty good kid, taking care of his sister and being the good older brother that he is. The last time I saw Connor he was a very good/polite kid who when around Colton was corrupted and obessed with Yugio (sp?) cards. Now you can see how his family life (parents divorced and living an airplane's flight away from each other) is affecting him. He's not going "bad" or something like that, he just gets into his own little world so much, when playing games or watching tv, to where he blocks you out when you try to talk to him.

Although that could be because of how exhausted he's been because he came straight from camp to our house. What kind of camp I don't remember but for some reason I think it was soccer. Could have been religious though because Aunt Ann was saying something about how he had someone else's bible, and socks, in his suitcase. Well whatever, I was very entertained these past couple days and am not going to the family reunion this weekend because of my mom having Bronchitis. Hooray for not having to visit small towns and entertain more small children!
