Snowflake Challenge Day 7 & 8: Self-Recs and Non-Self-Recs
Challenge #7: Promote/Rec/Sing the Praises* of Yourself!
I was actually tagged on tumblr recently to "Choose your 5 favorite works you created in the past year and link them below to reflect on the amazing things you brought into the world in 2019" so I thought I'd sort of combine this exercise with that one! <3
Palace of Eternity (Draco/Harry, 28k, Explicit) - I wrote this one for last year's
hdtropes and it is probably the work I'm the most proud of from 2019. I really wanted to approach the Vampire Fic trope in a unique way, and I'm super happy with how it came out.
Come Alive (James Sirius/Teddy, 30k, Explicit) - This is a fic I wrote for last year's
hp_nextgen_fest but I've been wanting to write this fic for a couple of years now. I got to explore some themes I've been wanting to write, and I really enjoyed getting to write something longer with this pairing again.
Find this Feeling (Alicia/Ginny, 27k, Explicit) - Suuuuper rare, longer, femslash pairing, so I wasn't expecting this to be massively popular, but I really enjoyed the process of writing this one and getting a chance to write something meatier with Ginny.
What I Do To You (Draco/Harry, 9k, Explicit) - This was a half-birthday gift for the lovely
writcraft and is based on the Buffy/Spike dynamic in season 6 of Buffy, which is something I've wanted to explore with Drarry for years. I finally decided to actually write it for Writ, and it was one of those fics that turned out pretty much exactly the way I wanted it to!
Too Cold Outside (For Angels to Fly) (Drarry, 63k, Explicit) - This was my first ever advent!fic that I wrote for last year's
slythindor100 and was a total spur-of-the-moment decision. I ended up writing a Veela!fic and attempting case!fic, which were two "tropes" I've been wanting to try my hand at. The fic also ended up being my 2nd longest ever, and I wrote the entire thing in about 6 weeks which is insane!

Ooo, this fic was so much fun! I loved the twist on the creature!fic trope here, and the dynamic and banter between James and Teddy was perfection!

Summary: When Harry asks his directionless, lovesick godson to clean up an old property to sell, he’d assumed the most Teddy would encounter would be Doxies and Bogarts. But when Teddy arrives at Number Twelve Grimmauld Place, he discovers something neither of them could have anticipated.
This was such a fascinating fic! The writing was wonderful, as were the characterizations and the little nods to canon and the HP magical universe. I was totally engrossed, and felt so much for Teddy here, and could completely understand how he could fall for Sirius (even while hopelessly pining for James!) Just a note, this fic is endgame James Sirius/Teddy, but all the smut is Sirius/Teddy.

Really enjoyable read with an interesting case and magical theory, partnered with a really wonderful relationship between Harry and Draco! I loved their friendship and partnership here, and the whole thing was fantastically engaging.

But when his ex-wife ends up in St. Mungo's, and Harry's tasked with finding her attacker, he'll have to confront the mistakes of his past, and rely on an old enemy, in order to get closure and move on, and incidentally, solve the case.
Oh my goodness, this fic was so SO good! It pulled me in right from the start and did not let up! The emotions and relationships in this were so fantastic and real in all their messy, complicated glory, and I love how the characters were able to be a little be fucked-up and not always make the best choices without being vilified. The sex here was unbelievably hot, and the ending was wonderfully hopeful. HIGHLY recommend!
