December Multi-Fandom Recs

Dec 31, 2017 07:58

To break up all the H/D reading I was doing for Erised, I actually read a good amount in other fandoms the past month. Some of my favorites below!

Title: How We Met
Author:
FestiveFerret
Pairings: Steve/Tony, background Bucky/Natasha
Rating: NC-17
Word Count: 41,740
Content/Notes AU: No Powers, escort!tony, bottom!steve, rimming
Summary: Life was pretty simple for Tony - work on his graduate thesis, hang out with his robotics projects in his unusual apartment, and fuck people for money. At least, it was simple until he met Steve Rogers.
Really wonderfully hot AU with a Tony who's estranged from his parents and makes his way on his own via the world's oldest profession. The characterizations are lovely and I really enjoyed the build of their relationship. Great read!

Title: Safe and Distant
Author:
Lindzzz
Pairing: Bilbo/Thorin, background Kíli/Tauriel
Rating: NC-17
Word Count: 45,453
Notes: AU: Thorin Lives
Summary: "Bilbo never bothers denying that he is a slight, little bit, probably infatuated with Thorin. It’s not something that bothers him. Really. He’s pretty sure that everyone very likely has a little flutter in their chest for the dwarf. He’s something grand and unattainable.
And it’s really much safer if it stays that way."
Wonderful fic with Thorin having been "obvious" about is feelings throughout the journey, and Bilbo not realizing how serious his intentions are until after the battle. I enjoyed Bilbo's voice here quite a lot and the ending was lovely. There is also an equally long sequel from Thorin's POV that I haven't read yet, but I'm sure it's great!

Title: My Fair Hobbit
Author:
Erinye
Pairing: Bilbo/Thorin
Rating: NC-17
Word Count: 148,509
Notes: AU: Alternate First Meeting: AU: No Smaug (more or less), AU: Fusion, My Fair Lady Fusion, switching, bottom!thorin, bottom!bilbo
Summary: Take a dragon and get rid of it, take a Kingdom under the Mountain and let it thrive under Thráin’s rule, take the King’s eldest son - as proud and arrogant as you can picture him - and then send him to the Shire in order to refine his diplomatic skills. Or, as his sister puts it: to grow them at last. Now, throw in the Master of Bag End playing host for the dwarf prince: you’ll get a clash of cultures, an ill-advised bet about educating a certain hobbit in the dwarf-lore, and all the pride and prejudice business you could hope for, plus Khuzdul.
A retelling inspired by My Fair Lady.
Fascinating AU where the dragon died during his initial attack, and Thorin and company were able to stay in Erebor. It was really interesting seeing this side of Thorin, and the traits that might have flourished if he'd remained in his home as a prince, secure in his position. I really enjoyed the characterizations here and the build of feelings, and the whole thing was a really lovely, enjoyable read!

Title: The Riven Crown
Author:
The_Kingmaker
Pairing: Bilbo/Thorin, background Kíli/Tauriel
Rating: NC-17
Word Count: 254,269
Notes: AU: Thorin Lives, fake/pretend relationship (sort of)
Summary: The aftermath of war is no laughing matter. Those who died must be honoured, those who are wounded must be healed, and those who remain need food and clothing, peace and sanctuary. With Thorin's life hanging in the balance, it is up to Bilbo and the rest of the Company to rule the rag-tag remnants of Erebor in his place.
Then there is the matter of the gold...
Can Bilbo save both king and kingdom, or is Erebor destined to fall deeper into ruin?
OMG, this fic is just AMAZING. It's everything you could ever want from a post BotFA fix-it fic and so much more! I know it's long, but honestly, the words just flew by and I actually found myself trying to drag it out because I didn't want it to end. The characters here are fantastically rendered, and Bilbo and Thorin are particularly magnificent. We get both of their POVs and it was such a treat to get inside their heads. The romance develops so beautifully and organically, and I loved the way the fake/pretend relationship trope was toyed around with here--it can be so easy to get mired down in misunderstandings, particularly with these characters, and I thought the author's take felt fresh and authentic. The plot was also suitably interesting and intriguing and moved things along wonderfully. Basically I enjoyed the hell out of this fic and I cannot recommend highly enough.

Title: Godlike Boredom
Authors:
ashes0909
Pairings: Loki/Thor
Rating: NC-17
Word Count: 1,503
Notes sex toys, implied bottom!thor, dirty talk, post-ragnorak
Summary: Thor should not feel this itch under his skin, the one that lingered and built up whenever Loki did something particularly mischievous. His brother had finally returned to them, when it mattered the most, and now he was here on their spacecraft, as it sailed to Midgard.
In his King's quarters alone on his bed, with the universe flying by the window, Thor had his hand around his cock; and he should not be thinking about Loki.
Ooo, UNF, this fic was fabulously hot with exactly the kind of dynamic I love between these two.

Title: Your heart's sudden but inevitable betrayal
Author:
WhatIfImaMermaid
Pairing(s): James T. Kirk/Spock
Rating: NC-17
Word Count: 9,845
Warnings: AU: Academy, bottom!kirk, rimming, teacher/student relationship, k/s advent 2017
Summary: They first meet in a bar. In San Francisco. After one of Jim’s epic brawls.
I love me a good Academy AU and this one was such a delight! I loved Jim's persistence in pursuing Spock and the whole thing was sexy and fun and lovely.

Title: The Bond
Author:
WhatIfImaMermaid
Pairing(s): James T. Kirk/Spock, mention of past Spock/Nyota
Rating: NC-17
Word Count: 21,678
Warnings: memory loss, amnesia!fic, dub-con, bottom!kirk, bonding!fic, non-linear timeline
Summary: He slips in love with Spock inconspicuously, during an uneventful afternoon, on an unnamed planet destined to become little more than a Greek letter and a Roman numeral on Starfleet’s chart of the Beta Cygni system.
In which:
-Spock gets amnesia.
-Spock is convinced that he and Jim are a thing.
-Jim doesn’t exactly disabuse him of the notion.
Ooo, this fic was fabulous! I loved the slight twist on the amnesia trope, with Spock only losing a couple of months, and how that still managed to have such an impact. The characterizations here were wonderful, and I just adored all the pining and the smut and basically everything! Delightful read.
