Happy 4th of July!
We have finally wrapped up our homeschool year, and are looking forward to a much needed summer break. I hope all the math doesn't fall out of their heads before we start back up again.
Brett has been practicing his Russian and packing and repacking all his gear into his gigantic backpack for his upcoming mission trip to Kamchatka. He went rock climbing and rappelling again this past weekend, and this time he took Jeff with him! So 8-year-old Jeff backed off the cliff right along with the big guys, and climbed a good way up as well. He said it was scary going over the cliff edge, but the rest of it was fun.
Alan is scooting full throttle now. He has sprouted a tooth and can sit up by himself for long stretches. He has been exercising his vocal chords in new ways lately; today he discovered that he can growl!
The boys attended Vacation Bible School at a friend's church this past week. The theme was the Arctic Edge, and on the last day, they saw a missions video about where Brett is going. Our church is planning to do the same theme for our VBS later this month.

ADDENDUM:
Hello again!
There is a streaming video on this page called "Adam's Trek" that features the Covingtons, the IMB missionaries who are serving in Kamchatka. These are the people Brett's group will be working with when he goes. This same video is featured on the Arctic Edge VBS DVD, for those who are involved with that. Just thought you might like to know a little more about his upcoming trip.

Brett called me at noon today (9pm Moscow time) and said he made it ok. Then I found his email which said:
Hi everyone! I am surviving on a little sleep and enjoying the nice weather and wonderful sights of Moscow. Enjoying the good food, the flight was long, and we do it again tomorrow. The ride from the airport was interesting (i will explain in full detail later!) to the hotel. The hotel was interesting, too. Anyway, having fun. I saw my mom in Atlanta. Tomorrow we go to Kamchatka. I love you all.
Brett
Brett's mom was returning to Illinois after visiting his brother in NC and had a layover in Atlanta at the same time as Brett. How cool is that? God is so awesome! So they had time for lunch. She sent me these pics. Let me know if you have trouble viewing them.

Brett just called. He has been doing a lot of hiking up and down volcanoes, and apparently helped build a road. He is amazed at the tenacity of the group of kids he's working with - no complaining, etc. He preached in a church today (it's already Sunday over there) and he's ready for some rest. Tomorrow, his group will go on a 4-day rafting trip, complete with fishing, bears, etc. and won't be back in civilization til probably Friday, so I don't expect to hear from him again til then. He says Russia is very different - the kids DON'T COMPLAIN! Well, keep praying for protection. He's supposed to be back next Saturday. I'll keep you posted.
