The Wedding Shower
So I'm altogether too excited to keep it inside. My BM's didn't want me to know about my bridal shower but, apparently, they were having some trouble with the theme. I was discussing the wedding with my mom and, knowing about the shower quandry, i told her that i had a great idea for it. As i am SO far from being a girly girl (grew up as a bit of a tomboy), this wedding is the girliest thing i've ever done in my life. As it is, im not having flowers at my wedding (an uber-girly thing that is just killing my mom because she says you HAVE to have flowers at a wedding). I suggested that they make my shower into the most ridiculous girly thing i could think of--a ladies tea party complete with hats, dresses, gloves, and petit-fours. My mother jumped in excitement and thus the shower idea was born.
Since then, they have been getting into the planning, picking up tea pots and tea cups here and there. Every now and then i get a little hint of whats going on (theyre still trying to keep it a secret). I know we're having a garden party with mix and match china, small petite sandwiches and cakes, everyone must wear a dress and ladies gloves, we're all getting "tea party names" as part of one of the games (I INSIST on being "Mrs. Higgenbottom"..it just sounds so cutesy and ladylike!)..we're even having butlers (2 male friends of the family who will be catering to our every need..oh yes, i WILL insist on ringing a bell to get their attention). In addition, all of the ladies attending must wear a lovely tea party hat. The catch? One of the contests will be to determine who has the best tea party hat! Of course, I've already been told i cannot win my own game so i've been designated the judge..but that hasn't stopped me from entering into a fierce battle of light-hearted intimidation led by me telling everyone that i will have the best hat there!
Today i trotted down to the local craft store, picked up the supplies, and began my hat! It's nearing completion. I'm leaning towards adding some battery-operated twinkle lights to it (just to be over the top). For those that dont already think i'm wacky, here it is:
