Preferred from Catalions IV and last one

This 365 project was so much more difficult than the one I did in 2011. And now that it’s over, I’m finding I spend more time here on LJ, reading other’s journals. A true benefit for the end of Catalions.

I remember in one of my Miksang classes where we did this cool exercise; we were told to stand in one location and not to focus on anything, just let our eyes scroll up and down, left and right. As soon as our mind engaged by labeling what we saw, giving it a name, we were instructed to close our eyes once again, turn just slightly to the left, open our eyes and repeat the exercise. When we became cognizant we were naming something like “blue car” or “billowy clouds” or “blond haired woman” we’d close our eyes, rotated just a few steps left and begin again. The instructors wanted us to simply see without an intrusive invasion of the mind.

Not that we don’t ever engage the mind, that is impossible, but it’s a simple exercise that helps me slow down. Whether I have a camera with me or not.

Sometimes when I’m out by myself, and find my mind racing ahead, my self-talk rambling on and on and on and then realizing I’m not seeing anything on my walk, I’ll stop and do my “Seeing” exercise. That’s where I was when I saw these colors. And clicked.

Looking down again.

The very limited snow we had in the Sierras in 2013. This was taken at Fitzpatrick Winery in Fair Play California, one of the few vineyards that grow their grapes organically.
