Finally got to do some reading over break.
I just devoured the Twilight books.
All I can say is...
Wow. I'm in love.
Anyone else love them as much as I did? It seems most of the people I have talked to haven't liked them, or read them!! I'm kind of disappointed.

I think you've hit the nail on the head with why I felt weird about the fourth book. I was all pumped after reading Eclipse, and I thought that the book was leading in an entirely different direction. Then BAM, Bella's married, pregnant, dying, a vampire... I guess I always thought the whole will-she-or-won't she (become a vampire, that is) was the main conflict in the story. But suddenly it wasn't an issue at all, everything was just wonderful, and so on. She was never even a true newborn. So... yeah. There were a lot of good parts in that book, but they were all contingent upon those plot points that I'm not sure should have ever happened. (I guess I don't know how it could have gone differently.)
My mom was/is CRAZY obsessed. She read all the books before I did. She saw the movie twice. She's constantly talking about it with my neighbor (with whom she saw the movie both times), and constantly discussing new developments on the next movie with her friend in Chicago.
I think they're rushing the movie into production. I'm not sure that's a good thing, but on the plus side, it should probably be out by next November.

Sadly I kind of saw several of the points you bring up coming when I read the books. She was obviously going to become a vampire. If she didn't, it would've caused too much suffering to many of the characters (though they did leave a few loose ends with her mom and some others - but I suppose that those were lesser relationships that didn't really need fixing... except her mom.). I kind of saw her becoming pregnant, but DAMN, I didn't know if it was possible or not. How does a vampire make one pregnant anyway? I thought that vampires were supposed to be frozen in time, and lose all of their bodily fluids and whatnot? Like.. all of a sudden vampires have semen? Okay....
I think they made too much of the pregnancy, and they could've made that slightly shorter... I was hoping for more death and suffering through the change, but I DEFINITELY saw that she wasn't going to be a newborn. It was kind of pointed out in her human nature and her ability to block things out in my opinion. Besides which, I think they would've needed another book if she HAD suffered through it (which I wouldn't have minded).
But yeah, very deceptive. If it had gone differently, I think the last book would've been MUCH shorter though... as there would have been no real conflict unless it was about turning her into a vampire entirely (which I guess was kind of the point of the series yes). I suppose I could see the last book still being a struggle against the vampire law, and whether she wanted to change or not. OR she could have ended up with Jacob (though I don't see how anyone can love that furry monster with my WONDERFUL Edward just inches away hahaha). Hmmmm
Haha, I love your mom!! I haven't heard anything about the next movie though. I kind of wish they'd replace the girl that was playing Bella though... she doesn't strike me as the perfect person for the role. I saw something about Vanessa Hudgens turning down a role in the movie. I wonder if that was the one... hahaha
When the movie comes out, you should see it with me if you're around!! I'm sure I'd be much happier seeing it with someone who read/loves the books. Hahahaha
