Sadly Cara becomes a regular only as of book 2 and even then it only happens towards the very end of the book but Stone of Tears has some of the BEST Kahlan scenes imho and it's where she truly blows your mind. However, to my dismay lol, sassy Cara is properly given the spotlight only as of book 4 *grrrrrrrrr*
I know that *nods* But i will get over it if the books are well written, and if they manage to hold my interest. When Kahlan is concerned someone mentioned how she's a real BAMF in the first 3 or 4 books but then she becomes this whiny, cheesy, boring lady. I hope that's not true lol.
What I like about these books is that K & R are being kept apart for most of the time so there is plenty of Kahlan/Cara interaction as they become an inseparable team. There is loads of subtext to choose from if one truly pays attention to the characters and not to Mr. Goodkind's rambling *gg* and also some really rewarding scenes between them: enough to justify the OTP that IS the Mother Confessor & Mord Sith.
I am just really, really happy that Cara stays with Kahlan, she's a mord'sith after all and i assumed she'd go with her Lord Rahl. SUBTEXT, oh how i love subtext. :D I'm so happy to hear that, cause well if you ask a straight guy or girl if there is subtext they will just look at you like you have gone mad lol. I always thought that you already read all the books, and that you're R&K shipper lol.
I hope I haven't spoiled anything for you but if you want to know more please feel free to ask: I'd be more than glad to answer :D
Nah, i love spoilers. :P And i'll definitely ask if i remember something else. Not long ago i posted a rant over at my lj about these books, and about one little problem i have with them lol.
It took me up to a year to complete book 3 and I have always gasped in astonishment at the die hard book fans who read one book in less than a week *meep* Sure, I was pretty fast with book 1 and certainly faster with book 2 but nr. 3 was arduous work for me. Sadly it feels like the same will happen with book 4 which, ironically, is a very praised installment by fans. I guess there is only so much We must protect Richard/Save Richard/Keep any harm from befalling Richard/Everyone die for Richard!!! I can stomach from Kahlan and Cara. I find such behaviour to be degrading for such powerful women *shrugs*
A year? LOL that's a very long time. You didn't like it or there was another reason why it took you so long? I usually finish a book 500 or 600 pages long in 5 or 6 days. *shrug*
Therefore I am trying to read as fast as I can so I can finally get to the good parts with K/C as a team and have less Seeker centered chapters. I can put up with Cypher as long as I imagine him as either Henry Cavill or the actor who played Arn, Knight Templar - my love of that character makes even Richard bearable *gg*
Oh don't remind me..Craig ruined everything for me. *sigh* Guess i'll have to imagine some random hot guy. I hope there won't be a problem with imagining Bridget as Kahlan, cause she's blonde in the books, right?
I will definitely check out that thread...after i start reading lol.
You won't be dissapointed in at least one aspect: as the books progress (starting with book 2) R & K practically spend their lives apart (which is when Kahlan truly SHINES).
Ahhh, that's why they were separated in the show so much. Now i get it. But who knows, maybe i'll love R&K, just like most people do, IF i manage to get CH as Richard out of my head lol.
I would have assumed my manips and icons would have proven otherwise *gg* Mmmmmm .... I have skimmed through every book, reading bits and fragments ... so I am familiar with the plots and conclusions. But like I said I have only recently started to thoroughly reading them and SUBTEXT is our bread and butter *hi5*, haters can hate ^^
But i think i saw some R&K arts on your lj, and i read somewhere that you switched from RK to CK. Or maybe i was dreaming about that and don't remember lol.
(and hey - up until the visit to Tamarang and the Con Dar I kinda disliked Kahlan in the first book. I was intrigued by her and curious but I wasn't as impressed as I had hoped I'd be. I really wanted to like her, have her as my fav character and it frustrated me to no end that she was falling short - thankfully that all changed as of Kahlan's stride into Tamarang)
*sigh* I'm afraid the same thing will happen to me with Cara. What if i don't like her in the books? :(
I said all there is to be said about show!R&K and show!Richard. Just look at this picture and you'll know what i think of them.
Cara is blonde in the books, Kahlan had dark brown hair and green eyes but I LOVED the way they made Kahlan look on the show (especially in Torn when she went all BAMC and rocked that royal 'rock star' look). Personally I find the dark hair - blue eyes combo far more striking.
Hmm...someone who wasn't satisfied with casting of R&K said how Kahlan is blonde in the books, and that she has green eyes, guess that information isn't correct then.
Craig ruined Richard for me on the show but book Richard ANNOYS me to end for other reasons. I really wanted to like him but he's not a believable character. Not to me anyway. He's a NOBODY who suddenly crowns himself ruler of the world and for some reason, that escapes my limited intelligence, everyone becomes brainwashed in his presence. Sure, there are positive aspects about him too but far too few for me to actually like him. Never have I rolled my eyes as much as reading about this guy lol
Oh great, i hate when lead character is annoying. *sigh*
It's not that Craig isn't a handsome man, he is very, very attractive, but yeah as you said more adorable/cute than manly and someone who could sweep a woman like Kahlan (Bridget) off her feet.
There's NO WAY that's gonna happen. Trust me. Cara IS Cara. Badassery around the clock. And Tab totally nailed Cara in every way. There's no way for you not to like her in the books. She's pure awesome.
