I could not help but ask myself how I managed to end up back in the filthy garbage heap of a country that was America. And more specifically, how I ended up in California. This place was positively wretched. And it was where the Master had laid down roots with his beloved Darla. Darla. How could he have favored such a whore over me? She was... quite literally in fact, a prostitute. And he sired her and brought her to the fold... She replaced me. No one replaces me! But then it seems that she was killed by her lover, Angelus. Or more accurately, Angel. He is such a disgrace to the rest of us. A soul? How can he stand it?
But I heard an interesting fact that Darla was given a second chance. She does not deserve that. She was brought back by the Wolf, the Ram, and the Hart. Brought back in a scheme gone horribly wrong to turn Angel back over to the dark side. Back to his true nature. How hard could it possibly be Darla? You can't bring him back to what he truly is? I cannot believe that. But I hear she has gone missing. Missing? Hiding? That does not seem Darla's style. But Angel setting her on fire? That I would have loved to witness. Though if it had been me, I would have made it a nice quick stake to the heart. No way for her to escape that.
But I digress. So how did I ever end up back here? The last time I was in this wretched country I vowed I would never come back. I was quite happy in Rome. Humans and vampires alike grovelled at my feet. The were terrified of me. They practically worshipped me just so that I wouldn't kill them. It was disgusting... But I loved every minute of it. But then someone came to me from the Wolf, the Ram, and the Hart. She didn't fear me. She was an irksome woman. Going on about the "Senior Partners" and their plan. It bored me until she reached the part about taking over a town. After some careful negotiations, I agreed. However, if I am able to take over the town.. with help from some other vampires unfortunately... the people of the Los Angeles offices will errect a palace for me. Better than the one I had in Rome.
How could I refuse? Take over a pathetic little town in California? Simple as anyone could imagine. I'm told that there is a Slayer there though. As if I tremble at the thought of a Slayer. In all my time walking this planet, I must have fought a Slayer before. This is not a concern. It will be childsplay. However, before I carry out my task in Sunnydale, I have some unfinished business to attend to. I must find the last known creature to have seen Darla. Angel. I wish I had a servent travelling with me so that he could spit on that pathetic excuse for a vampire when I met with him.
I stopped in my travels through the wretched Los Angeles streets. I could sense him. Then I saw it. The Hyperion Hotel.
