Grandma's Day Three: Art Museum!

Feb 13, 2013 17:38

Today was a more productive day!

Work was cancelled for Grandma and so we went to the Art Museum. I wanted to take my sister tomorrow and my Grandmother really wanted to go to the History museum but she knew that we would like the art one better. Of course now my sister and I have to figure out what to do tomorrow. I have a feeling that it won't be all that hard to figure out though.

We went to the St. Louis Art Museum. It is located in an area near the Zoo, History Museum, Forest Park Turtle Playground, Science Center, and Botanical Gardens. Basically all these really great items are together in once place. Today we only visited the Art Museum though it would have been nice to get lunch and then go to the History Museum as well. I really feel like we could have hit two places easily.

Here are the few picture I took at the museum! Every museum I have ever been in doesn't allow you to take photos. I do not think that was the case here but I did not know that and was not certain so I did not take any inside. There are all outside. The crowing glory, if you will, is the large Statue of St. Louis.

But of course Octopedes much prefers the water.

The art pieces that i seemed most interested in are as follows:

Max Beckmann, The Sinking of the Titanic

Franz Marc The Little Mountain Goat

Camille Pissarro The Bell Tower of Bazincourt

Joseph Wright of  Derby, Lake with Castle on a Hill

Johan Gregor Horoldt, Two-Handed Cup and Saucer

Gustave Dore Loch Lomond

Roberto Matta, To Cover the Earth with a New Dew

Walter Crane Fig and Peacock Wallpaper

George Grant Elmslie Ornamental Panel

Harry Bertoia Maquette for Scultpural Screen

Of course there were many more wonderful things and I could not keep track of it all or post it all. And there were a couple of exhibits that were closed and being worked on because they are working on a second building. The newer building will have the more modern art and the older building will have the more classical pieces. It was wonderful and I look forward to visiting again when more is available.

Oh! Boy did I luck out today. We ran errands. This included a stop at the local Blockbuster that is going out of business  Well I was very excited because I found Spirited Away and Castle in the Sky. These both of Miyazaki films who is a genius! They were both in sections that said $10 or less. But when I got to the check-out, Spirited Away rang up for $20 and there was just no way I was going to pay that for a used dvd. I know they are expensive new but not that much more expensive. The guy said it was apparently was not supposed to have been on the shelf. He still should have given it to me for the $10. However! When I looked over my receipt from my purchase I cam to noticed that Castle in the Sky was only $2. Best deal ever! And I got Willow for $10 and at FYE it was $13 for a used disk so, again, I am pleased.

Tonight's movies were East of Eden (not the cute Anime which is Eden of the East) and Mildred Pierce starring Joan Crawford.  I think I liked Mildred Pierce best. It was a sort of murder mystery. And! There is a remake of it starring Kate Winslet that I would love to see. Of course this just emphasizes the point that Bea is  always making. Movies nowadays are always sequels or remakes.

Oh! I also officially have a new address for the next six months. Yay me~
