A/N: I am terribly sorry for updating this so late, I have not written anything in it after I posted chapter 7. It was very recent that I had come up with this chapter. I really want to plot to move and some action to happen, hope chapter 8 is something that will stir the plot?
Warnings: Not beta’d, who would beta it for me? I need someone to check it T___T too busy to jump around to beta it myself, and I suck anyways.
Chapter 8
Minhwan observed his brother with hesitant in his eyes. He wanted to hurry and try to catch Seunghyun and stir even a mere opportunity for a conversation. However, his brother seemed disturbed, and aroused.
"What's wrong with you hyung? You look lost in thought," Minhwan asked, as he got sick of the dark-haired boy's fidgeting and stammering over his studies.
"Oh? Nothing's wrong-" his words died in his throat when Minhwan gave him a knowing look. He sighed briefly before smiling sweetly - a real smile - and added, "My head is just in frenzy, I'm anticipating something."
The younger Choi settled for this answer for now. As if on cue, once the clock clicked ten thirty am, break time over, Minhwan made his exit.
--
His legs were trembling and his hands shook slightly by his side. Has Minhwan ever felt like this before? He clutched his heart and breathed slowly in order to calm it, if not, his anatomy might stop all too suddenly. He saw Seunghyun walking out of her dorm just in time. He shrugged off the thoughts about him being a stalker, knowing her schedule for the day.
Seunghyun seemed lost in thoughts herself as Minhwan approached her. He had no idea what he might say, but he just wanted to talk her, maybe ever gaze into that amazing smile.
"Hi!" he excitedly shouted while he was few feet away. Seunghyun jumped slightly and snapped in his direction. Minhwan saw her let out a relieved exhale. She walked more hurriedly to be only few steps away from him.
"Hey, sorry I was kind of lost in thought and you startled me" She apologetically smiled and the two continued to walk.
Minhwan averted his eyes from hers; he did not want to redden in that shameless color just yet. He could sense her puzzled gaze burning him, so he sheepishly smiled and reached out for his tickets.
“It’s actually my fault. I am too excited for these!” He tried to look pompous with the tickets to SHINEee’s new concert. Seunghyun's eyes seemed brighter, and Minhwan took a big mental 'Bingo!' at her reaction. He knew his to-be-girlfriend would have to love the group he loved. Therefore, he picked SHINee.
"You are a SHINee fan?" Seunghyun spoke, rather speechless and breathy. Minhwan mentally squealed at how hot she sounded.
"Of course, are you?" he examined her expression and once he spelled out those words, she immediately nodded. A blush took place in her round cheeks and Minhwan's hands were itching to pinch them until they were sour and painful.
"It must be embarrassing, right? Being such a fan-girl," Seunghyun replied with her blush growing redder by the word. The two seemed lost in their conversation as they walked pass the big yard. Some students eyed them with curiosity while others were too busy rushing back to their dorm after a long morning.
"There is absolutely nothing wrong with liking a group for their music!" Minhwan defended avidly, which resulted in Seunghyun's wide smile.
"So, do you want to tag with me? I have no companion for this concert," Minhwan felt proud at how smooth and casual he sounded while his heart held carnivals and celebrations. It was Seunghyun's time to stammer now, but her opened mouth closed as an excited nod made Minhwan's day.
"Great, so... It is this weekend's... however; can I get your phone number? f-for further information of course..." Minhwan spoke haltingly, and he suddenly sounded serious. Seunghyun wasted no time in getting a piece of paper and scribbling her number on it. She handed over to Minhwan with a slight chuckle.
"I have to go now, busy classes, and perfect marks to keep. So, call me~" she retorted and Minhwan stood there, clutching her number in a hand and breathing heavily. Students jumped when Minhwan shouted a big "YAY!" as he pranced to his class. The teachers wondered what made the little Choi so happy and content, but they were too pleased with his amazing performance in class to ask or waste minutes wondering.
--
Wednesdays proved to be the worst days out of Mir's whole schedule. He felt sleepy in his first three lessons and nope, he did not get any break because some teacher wanted to discuss some stupid thing with the students, so he had to wait for his second break to eat, exactly at ten forty five.
Since Cheondoong had late lessons, the boy did not even wake up early as Mir. He felt like a zombie, going down the stairs after his two lessons all by himself. He finally finished for the day. After waking up at seven am, another seven hours of continuous studying almost blew his brain.
He took a second to rest on the stair, feeling lonely and hungry all over. He heard steps behind him yet he did not feel like getting up or scotching over. Some students passed by him, eyeing that "weird girl's posture" at the stairs. Their over-curious looks at him finally pissed him.
He found no companion and he was too stupid to take Hongki's or Jaejin's number. Therefore, he walked along the corridors. Are you wondering why he did not go and eat? Mir had this bad habit of not being able to eat if he was alone. Moreover, who would want to let down their stomachs alone? Besides, he would look pathetic all alone.
Mir's iPod ironically began playing a very popular song of 2010, "I'm a loner" He chuckled when he realized how it fitted him now. Therefore, the boy got a big over excited with the song, and started rapping fast and missing the tone in his mind. Nevertheless, the song made him feel content and cheered him up. While jiggling his butt to the beat to his ears, Mir missed the obvious laugh from a very familiar brown-haired teen.
However, at the end, Mir accidentally dropped - more like flew it over the yawn - the iPod and the poor gadget barely made it when it fell over the grass. At then Mir finally realized that someone have been watching him all along, and that someone was none but Lee Joon.
However, something seemed off about the boy's face. Mir could not put his finger on it, but there was something utterly wrong.
"Did Hongki break your nose?" Mir suddenly asked. Joon's face crumbled with uneasiness because of that particular memory, he shrugged.
"No, it was just slightly harmed, nothing serious."
"Not from what I have seen, you practically whimpered!" Mir chuckled at the thought and watched as Joon's expression darkened with a glower.
"If I simply did not approach your table, I would not have faced so much pain," Joon mumbled and at then, Mir stopped laughing.
"Why would you come to our table in the first place? I never got to ask, since you were weeping like a little girl and all" Mir wondered, and Joon stared at him incredulously.
"Are you seriously curious?" Joon asked back as he crossed his arms before his chest. Mir got his iPod back, before he sat down the bench, he nodded. Joon inhaled deeply before sternly pinning Mir with his eyes.
"I wanted to ask you out, that is why!” Joon said seriously, his eyes kept on Mir and the other boy dropped the iPod again from surprise. Mir looked up from his lap with a mysterious expression.
"You wanted to ask me what?" He repeated, his breathing seemed shallower and his hand trembled in his lap, or so Joon thought. The older boy picked up the assaulted iPod and placed it in Mir's hand.
"Would you please go out with me?" Joon murmured hotly, his fingers slowly embraced Mir’s hand. The younger man-girl head snapped and his eyes widely questioned Joon's sanity.
"Are you nuts? Why would I go out with you? Did you lose you mind or something with that punch?" Mir could not believe his ears. That will never happen; Joon and he will never be able to go out! Not now, not ever that will occur. He could not look at Joon in the eyes and just stood up.
Joon could not chase after Mir, because the rejection felt so heavy on his heart. He stood there, his heart slowly breaking while watching the rim of her skirt flutter with her hurried walk.
Mir ended up pounding the door of Hongki's dorm room. He had no idea what he is supposed to do! Was he in place to accept Joon's offer? He could not do anything like that, because he will only build faulty hopes for the boy! Hongki answered the door after another bang on the wooden barrier.
"What is wrong?" Hongki sleepily answered. He did not have any classes for the day that is why waking up at almost two sounded just fine. However, when Hongki spotted the confused and sad look on Mir's face, he did not question him and backed away from the door.
"Come inside, I'll pour you some coffee"
"I'll pass the coffee, make me some sandwiches, I'm so hungry!" Mir cheerily said, but he could not fool Hongki, he knew something was wrong behind those glistering half moons of eyes. They sat down at the kitchen area, while Mir feasted on the ham and cheese sandwich, Hongki sipped at his coffee while running a hand in his untidy bed-head.
"Will you please tell me what is wrong? I won’t digest this coffee until you answer my questions" Hongki sighed as the warm liquid melted his insides into something gooey.
Mir looked up from his empty plate and finally, he resolved to tell Hongki what had just happened between him and Joon. Hongki chocked on his coffee when Mir mentioned the kneeling on a knee and asking him out with that sincere voice. Hongki solemnly could not see that much of amatory in Joon.
"Wow..." After fifteen minutes of a flailing Mir and a nodding /spitting/ Hongki, that was all the Blondie uttered.
"I rejected him pretty badly, but what can I do? I was freaking out! I might have spelled out everything about me being a male!" Mir desperately landed on the couch after raising and falling in his little hesitant yarn.
"Well, you did well." Mir nodded at Hongki's words. Yes, I did well... he thought inside, just to calm his spinning thoughts.
"You could not accept... since you're both males..." Mir continued to nod to Hongki's words. Hongki was right.
"Even if you told him about the real you, there would be no way he will stay calm and not tell the whole school" His head did not stop nodding.
"Unless-" Hongki suddenly wondered and Mir’s head stopped nodding and tilted so he would face Hongki.
"Unless you tell him your reasons, and then he will stop pursuing you." Hongki smiled a soft smile at Mir's lost expression. "The real question it, are you willing to share such a private part of yourself with Joon? A man you hated since first meeting. Only god knows why~" Hongki seemed teasing at that.
"You know why! He assaulted me! He forced himself on me! I would never forgive him!" Mir continued to defend himself. Flashes of that day appeared behind his lids that caused him to stand up suddenly.
"I will never agree to going out with him." With determination, Mir decided this.
--
The blond boy left the school's grounds at two thirty, his plan worked perfectly. He found an apartment near both the school and the cafe in fifteen minutes and it was so suitable he could not believe it. He settled some of the stuff he brought in a backpack, such as toothbrush, toothpaste and all the things he might need to make this place look presentable. He blushed as he made his new bed, imagining doing perverted stuff with Jonghun right there.
Hongki changed his outfit in his new apartment since it was too risky to leave the school looking like a boy and risk someone seeing him. He wore tight skinny jeans, with a tank top and a pair of comfortable shoes.
Once Hongki arrived at the cafe, he got shivers from the looks of the girls working there. Thank god, no one hinted the fact that anyone recognized him; actually, they were surprised such a "pretty boy" would work there from now and on. Hongki smiled sheepishly and bowed to their complements. They opened and wow, the place seemed very popular. Many people from his school dropped by, but thanks to the extreme make over from the uniform of the cafe, Hongki was a complete new person.
He hid his blond hair behind a dark wig; he enjoyed the awe from his colleagues. Hongki wore a buttoned down black shirt, with a matching pair of trousers. Since Hongki had a short training period, he was cashier assistance; he would watch over the cashier and learn. That was easy, however, as time passed, Hongki grew bored, but he had to endure the boredom to get this job and be able to see Jonghun everyday.
That kind of idea made him giddy and pleasant. At seven, his shift of three hours ended. Hongki changed out of his uniform to his casual clothes. He was a bit disappointed that Jonghun did not show up.
However, when Hongki set a foot outside the cafe, he met the black haired boy.
"Good work," Jonghun cheerily said, bowing low for Hongki's work. The blond haired boy's heart pounded and he bowed his head in respond. A glamorous smile took over his features while his eyes disappeared behind that wide smile.
"I wanted to come earlier, but I was caught up with my studies..." Jonghun spoke calmly. Hongki discovered that he could not get enough of that voice.
They walked quietly, enjoying the comfortable silence. Hongki wanted to figure out the boy, he never got the chance to be this close to Jonghun since his sophomore year, the year he confessed but rejected hard in return. His heart ached at those memories; therefore, he shrugged them off. The present seemed lovelier and Hongki intended to live to it.
"I know this is rude of me, since I only met you yesterday, but would you like to come up?" Hongki felt sheepishness eat him up, but the straight approval from Jonghun made him giddy.
The sound of unlocking the door echoed in the prematurely moved-into apartment. The boys changed from outdoor shoes into comfortable slippers. Jonghun admired Hongki's attachment to his traditional side.
They settled in Hongki's kitchen, the Blondie took place behind the counter, he fished out a small box from the bag he held in his hand while putting out two cups from a near drawer.
"Here, I hope you like sweets." Hongki sat down at the high chair with a smile. He offered a small plate, which contained a delicious slice of two-layered chocolate cake with strawberry syrup. The dark liquid in the cup turned out to be warm coffee. Jonghun looked admirably at the cake and the hot coffee and peeked at Hongki's face to see what expression the boy took.
Jonghun found a very motherly smile that has brightened Hongki's features and those canines shining lustrously at him.
"Dig in, please!" Hongki cut a small piece of cake and using a small plastic fork, he offered it to Jonghun's hands, but Jonghun simply opened his mouth to make Hongki feed him.
Hongki flustered face made Jonghun chuckle but he enjoyed the wet taste of chocolate and strawberry in his mouth. Jonghun marveled over the cake. Hongki noticed how much Jonghun seemed to love them, and smiled happily to the boy’s cute manner toward the pasties.
"This place looks nice, I would not believe you live here alone, it is too clean to be a single guy's apartment." Jonghun joked. Hongki smiled sweetly.
"What to say, I took care of it" A lie. He hid those lying pupils behind his closed lids.
"Yeah, for a second I thought you had a girlfriend, which is the only way a man would naturally keep his place clean and tidy" Jonghun looked around, his eyes looked at anything but met Hongki's.
"Is there... something wrong?" Hongki finally asked. He could just sense the heavy and awkward silence falling slowly around them.
"No. Well, yes. I wanted to ask something. However, you see... I have no idea... Just ignore it... It's too personal" Jonghun stumbled and went nowhere with his words, finally Hongki reached out to put the boy out of his misery. Hongki planted a kiss on Jonghun's reddening cheek.
Hongki jerked backward because of how red Jonghun turned. "I'm sorry..." he apologized slowly, he had no idea why, but he felt like giving excuses. Hongki never gave excuses for his actions, wither he was at fault or not. Jonghun's face turned into something mysterious. His eyes darker than usual, Hongki found himself staring and wondering if he should say something to...
Jonghun suddenly smiled smugly, "It's okay, you made me sure now," Hongki had no idea what the later spoke of, but after a while of casual talking, Hongki had no other choice but let it behind his back. I guess we are even now, Jonghun thought while listening to Hongki’s love for Rock music.
"Maybe I should pick up my old guitar then, to impress you" Jonghun joked, but it only stimulated Hongki's excitement.
"You can play the guitar?" Hongki began investigating. Jonghun nodded before taking a sip from his water. They have been talking for hours and no one noticed that it was almost ten o'clock.
"I should go now, thanks for having me." Jonghun bowed slightly before heading over the door. Hongki replicated.
"It was my pleasure." Jonghun left with a small smile that overflowed Hongki with glee. Once the door clicked into a lock, Hongki began dancing around the apartment. His plan was a great success. He did not feel guilty for fooling Jonghun at all, quite the opposite, he was ecstatic to get the boy under his skin. He did not forget that he had to be in his dorm by his curfew, in thirteen minutes.
--
“Thanks Seunghyun, I owe you one,” Hongki panted as he laid his tired body on the couch. Said diva stood at the grey furniture, watching Hongki’s chest heave and wondering what the man had done. Finally, his curiosity got the best out of him, he flopped next to Hongki, all of their inimical disappeared.
"What do you owe me for exactly?" Seunghyun asked while his brows twined in a confused line. Hongki did not even try to sit up.
"It's none of your business," Seunghyun pouted at that cold phrase. "And why are you still up?" The Blondie asked with his eyes closed, suddenly too tired to look at Seunghyun.
"I was just... you know what? It's none of your business either!" Seunghyun suddenly sprung, his face bothered and tone louder than usual. Hongki finally sat up and looked at Seunghyun’s sullen face.
"Ah~ Just forget it!" Seunghyun snapped again. Hongki watched in oblivion as the dark haired boy slammed the door of his room after him, he wondered who stepped on his tail. However, Hongki did not ponder on that, he ended his night with some studying to catch up with and a hot shower.
--
Mir walked up the stairs with a muffled yawn, he hated Thursdays, and he often mistook it as Friday and built false hopes.
Hongki regretted being so late, he got so little sleep due to his pile of homework and disturbing nightmares. He stumbled in his steps; he stopped with an apologetic look when he bumped into someone. He also smiled widely because that someone was Jaejin; his best friend never looked more welcoming.
"Where have you been?" Jaejin warily asked. Hongki wanted to tell Jaejin, he really wanted to tell him, but he could not.
"Here and there, what about you, I dropped by your room but Minhyuk said you were doing some research" It was true; Hongki did drop by at the evening before heading out to his part-time job.
"Yeah, I have been interested in something lately; you will figure it out later. However, now, you have to hurry to your class" Jaejin waved goodbye to Hongki, the later nodded and picked up his pace.
Hongki was prancing along the corridor before someone reached out a hand and tugged on his sleeve. Since Hongki had zero defensive reaction, but he did he yelp when someone was shoving against the rough wall, banging his head.
"What the heck?" Hongki cursed and looked straight into his offender's eyes, it was none but Lee Jonghyun.
"What do you think you're doing?" he felt irritated enough about being shoved against a wall, and now he had to put up with Jonghyun’s emo-boy attitude.
"I know." That was all Lee said after five seconds. Hongki stared into his eyes with oblivion.
"You know what?" He felt his stomach stirring with irritation and slight wary.
"The real you, I know the real you" Jonghyun pierced thought Hongki's eyes and heart with both of his eyes and words.
Hongki could not react at all; he kept staring skeptically at the boy, his palm fisted by his side before it rose to land in Jonghyun's face. The boy least expected it and resulted in him backing away almost three meters away.
"Good, I'm sick of pretending to be a nice girl, now I won't have to, at least, not in front of you." Hongki sternly fixed his glower on Jonghyun's face. The other seemed slightly ruffled but then he smirked, he got his confidence back.
"Then you won't mind if I did this... in front of him" Jonghyun's last words were barely a whisper. Hongki did not understand any of it, but then it hit him, a pair of moist lips brushed against his own before they kissed the daylight out of him.
Not so far, Jonghun watched something inside fumed, it was either jealousy or something else, and the boy could not recognize the feeling.
To be continued.
