Writer's Block: My Journey to Greatness

Feb 10, 2009 09:34

My parents taught me the value of hardwork and making your own way through life.  Life isn't about handouts and laziness.  Granted that many people tend to get whatever they want whether they deserve it or not when someone that does deserve it gets overlooked.  I don't consider anything I have done a measure of greatness, I just feel I'm doing my job.  Last summer my dad needed me and while he was in the hospital 200 miles away I drove to be with him 2-3 times a week by myself and slept in my car in the afternoons when i had to leave his room, slept on he waiting room floors, sit in his ICU cubicle for hours on end even though he was mostly unaware that I was there but just in case he needed me.  While many people, even in my own family, thought that was a wonderful thing for me to do, there was no question.  He was my father and family is important to me therefore, i would be nowhere else.  I guess some families don't care about eachother the way mine does.

As far as community goes, I try to stay involved in the 4-H Club.  I attend Camp and have for the past 13 years and this year marks my 14th.  I am a club leader and I help with everything that is involved.  I'm one of very few young people that is a leader.  And work is a totally different story.  I go in when asked, usually work later when asked, and do multiple jobs but never once get a pat on the back for it but I keep doing it anyway because I love my job.

Am I great?  probably not but I like to think that considering how small a town I live in makes me pretty awesome.
