So one of the patients on the unit coded today.... this means no heart beat, no respirations, no viable life signs etc.... So we called a code blue and let me tell you I have never seen so many lazy, fat nurses and doctors move so quickly. it was freaking amazing. they all came in and boom CPR was started, boom they pushed some epinephrine, boom he was intubated and breathing again within a couple of minutes. The skill and knowledge of the staff really just impressed me beyond belief. Also, it kind of scared me a little. What if I was the nurse on call? I mean, I just kind of stood in awe of the situation and the "dead" man laying on the table before me. How is it possible that lives are in my hands?
Also, I have decided I want to be a life flight nurse. They get to walk around the hospital like they are the shit, basically because they get these really sweet astronaut looking jump suits. I really want one. I mean lets be honest people, thats pretty dang sweet. It is kind of sad to stand next to them. I mean, I am in my white polyester student nursing uniform, which consists of a 1970's version of a scrub top that has a garnet and gold stripe down the front and says "FSU School of Nursing," white pants and white shoes that could most likely serve an orthopaedic purpose to most senior citizens....
Oh and since I have to wear white pants all day long, I don't ever wear underwear during clinicals and I have decided that it is the best thing ever and I am never wearing them again....five days and counting! ;)
