Cranford

Good grief, are there any British actors/actresses NOT in Cranford?  (Apart from some McGanns and some Fienneses?)  Look at the cast!

Nope. Every last one of 'em is in it. No exceptions. :)

(As someone said back when it aired on the Beeb, don't expect anything huge and pricey from the BBC for the rest of the year; they've clearly blown their entire budget on this show!)

So that's what it is! I've been watching it for a while wondering randomly what book it was supposed to be because I didn't recognize it. Now I'm really confuzzled because 'Cranford' is my favorite book in the entire history of literature. Who are all these strange people? I'm so confused.

Well I've never read the book so I have no idea how accurate it is or isn't. But I'm enjoying watching it!

Hello you!

I looked up the synopsis and it seems to be a confabulation of three different books one of which is 'Cranford', using characters from 'Cranford' with most of plot and characters coming from the other books. I guess the title means it's about the town Cranford (the setting of a number of otherwise unrelated books by Mrs. Gaskell) and not an adaptation of the book Cranford. I had my hopes up when I heard they were making it but I cannot love it now, no matter how good it really is.

Oh I see. Yes, that's kind of strange. Like that TV series "Road to Avonlea" which was a combination of "The Story Girl" and "The Golden Road", which were my two favorite LM Montgomery books, but then they threw in a bunch of other stuff and it was all just kind of like Avonlea fanfic. (Though really it was a pretty decent series. Did that even come on TV down here? Or did I just watch it with my cousins in Canada? I can't even remember now.)

Well, I had been missing Threlfall,d'Arcy, Woodall, Ingleby and several more. They are perfect for period pieces. :D

Yes, well, if you want to be pedantic about it... :D

So you've seen it already?

Got the DVDs. It ran on British TV a while ago and since I liked what my friend told me about it, I bought them. :D

Which one is Simon Woods?

I'm quite decently entertained too.

You just didn't look hard enough. If you keep watching it over and over, he'll show up eventually, I'm sure.
