maybe my favorite coda; probably my favorite. this is a beautiful tribute to adam: what he went through, where he belongs, what he comes to mean to dean, and how instrumental he becomes in bringing their family back together.

Family dinner is the grease stain along the bottom of the takeout bag, the slurp of a plastic straw followed by the hollow shake and crunch of ice against a cardboard cup. It’s the small popping noise beside him as the clear lid to a wilted salad comes off.
this is a tough one. but what it is, is one of the best-written codas i've seen regarding that very same night, and the motions dean goes through, the way he copes and doesn't, and ultimately the moment he realizes he is alone. cannot say enough about the writing here.

THIS, is such a great examination of that "anarchy" in heaven castiel referred to. it meditates on the challenges castiel faces, the esteem he's come to, and - so satisfyingly - how the winchesters have impacted castiel's character.

When he looks, turns his head fast enough to give himself freakin whiplash, the tall, dark-haired guy he saw out of the corner of his eye is gone, nothing there but the shade of a tree falling in sharp black lines on the empty turf.
recced everywhere, most recently brought to my attention by candygramme, and with good reason. engaging, original, well-written, and showing an intensely beaten and conflicted dean. fantastic use of characters here, in a way that will make your heart skip a beat.

The next time he dreams, they're not on the Impala. They're in a hotel room with one bed instead of two. Sam raises his eyebrows and smirks. Dean shrugs.
this is probably my favorite take on the "dream" concept; she highlights dean's excitement to go back to sleep in a way that is so sad. but i like the satisfaction of it, i like that dean smiles in this, i like that he finds new things about himself. and i love that sam is there for him. GUH.
