The oldest trick in the book.

One of the oldest tricks in the corporate world is the wait and see approach to any new technology. Sometimes it is a win for the big corporations, sometimes its a bad loss. I think Bill Gates is making inflammatory remarks in this interview in an effort to take advantage of cronyism created within the rest of the industry when Apple invented a legal and profitable market for mp3 players and downloads.

When is Gates going to learn that Apple is not selling just a program like his company does, Apple is in the business of an optimized software platform written SPECIFICALLY for customized hardware. Gates is just looking for an obvious void he THINKS Apple has neglected.

Bill "Waits" Is trying to get in on the Wal Mart cheap culture that always turns hard working inventive people into those who ask, "would you like an apple pie with that order?". What makes him think that Apple couldn't use the obvious hype based on the billions generated by the iPod to pull strings with every cell phone provider in the world and spit out an iPod that also talks to cell towers?

Boys and girls the simple answer is a wireless iPod already in the works and Voice over IP. This approach would not provide true cellular range but it would be MUCH CHEAPER than cell phone bills and contracts. Wireless hotspots are popping up everywhere and the iPod is much more fashionable than some cell phones.

No cell phone company cut and no profane Wal Mart culture. Apple gets to keep its hands on the actual design, programming, and optimization of the product. It is time people understand that Microsoft only writes programming for machines they know very little about and it looks like they are about to add cell phones to the blue screen hall of shame.
