This is what happens when you break routine

Apr 13, 2011 11:30

Normally I'd be in the office by 10am. There's only 2 of us - the editor and myself - well, 3 a week ago, but the other editor quit (good for him). So who's gonna care if I come in a little later, right? I mean, the editor comes in at 11am.

Today I decided I would go pick up the library books I reserved. The library opens at 10am and closes at 9pm and I don't fancy going there at the end of the day all sweaty and tired and hungry. So morning it is. And after that, I'd just catch a cab down, the latest I'd be in is 11am, the editor won't even be in yet I reckon.

My absence won't even be noticed. Or so I thought.

Turns out, the freelance editor arrived at the office at 10.15am and there's no one to let her in. Nobody bothered to inform me she was coming. Brilliant. Shit like that only happens when you break your routine, doesn't it :/

I had to apologise to the boss (who, by the way, is almost never in the office) and he's not mad or anything, but he assumes that "Mel is an early bird like you and me, so thought you'd be in to let her in". Well, you know what they say about making assumptions.

But despite everything (fuck, it's only 11:27am after everything?!) I'm 6 library books happier :)

my love-hate relationship with my job, too long to rant on twitter, library books make me happy
