My Health:
The weekend has passed, and I’m feeling rather sickly today. It all began last night around 6:00pm. I have a pounding headache that leaves me somewhat light-headed and disoriented and I am experiencing waves of nausea that come and go. I really wanted to go out with Chaz and Raja last night, but I just felt too under-the-weather to attempt it. I’m at work despite feeling like a pile of shit this morning. Two Tylenol got me going, but they seem to be wearing off. I may have to buzz home during lunch to grab some more. Grumble… Grumble… Grumble…
My Skis:
In other news, I attempted to purchase those K2 Axis X Pro’s only to learn that they were no longer available. In light of this news I have been searching for other options including the K2 Axis X which is the next step down from the X Pro, and is considered a mid-fat. However, since I really cannot be certain what these will ski like, I have decided to go ahead and demo for the early part of my ski week. Then I can buy once I have tired the various models out. If I am going to be skiing on these for the next few years, I want to get something that is attuned to both my skiing ability and style. It being the end of the season, I have certain things working both FOR and AGAINST me. Most shops are trying to get rid of last year’s models, which means year-old skis at a GREAT price. However, since these models have been selling all year, you have a limited selection which can be especially frustrating when you are trying to find a specific make/model/length. Hopefully things will pan out well.
My Credit & My School Books:
Citibank is going to love me this month. Between buying books for school and skis for the slopes, I’m finally going to come up on my credit limit. Luckily there is little chance of me passing it. Still, I like to keep the bills small so that I don’t fall into a depression once a month. CREDIT… YAY! Luckily I was able to track down some book deals online, and managed to knock about $300 bucks off of the Drexel bookstore price tag. It would have cost about $500 to buy NEW from the bookstore, and I would have only saved about $100 buying USED from the bookstore (WHAT A DEAL!!! ). I was able to get all the books I needed for $190.00 online (that includes shipping). All I have to hope for now is that the orders arrive before classes begin. Two business weeks should be plenty of time, don’t you think?
My Weekend (Saturday):
My family did St. Patrick’s Day on Saturday. The Fertalla family, as well as my grandparents and Chaz joined us for this annual celebration. There was no shortage of food. In fact, we probably cooked too much, which is why my mother was so thrilled when she saw Chaz come through the door. The corned-beef was awesome (per usual) and there was no shortage of potatoes, or desserts for that matter. We all had a few beers, but I wasn’t really in a drinking mood so I quit early. Everyone hung out in my family-room till about 1:30am. Luckily, I was able to escape for a little bit when Emma gave me a call around 11:30ish. She wanted to call me before she left for Florence (Sunday). Apparently NYU has some kind of satellite campus there that gives students all kinds of great deals on trips. She was a little concerned to be going over seas during this apparent “International Crisis” that we have going, but I’m sure she will have a good time anyway, aside from the day she will be spending in Paris, but then technically she’s not American. It has been a while since I have talked to her, so it was nice to catch up. She invited me to come visit her at NYU when she returns from her trip. I may try to stop by on my way back from VT on the 28th or 29th, otherwise I will try to set something up for the weeks following my break.
My Weekend (Sunday):
Sunday was of the ‘lazy’ variety. I don’t think I did anything aside from get sick during the later half, which I had mentioned before. Though I think I may just be a little stressed out or something. I am generally physically capable; my head is just out-of-whack for lack of a better term. I did manage to watch Metropolis around noon though. It was a pretty good anime flick, which was reminiscent of Caves of Steel a book from the Issace Asimov “Robot” Series. I wouldn’t be surprised if Caves of Steel has been the inspiration for the movie script, though ‘Metropolis’ is technically based on a Japanese comic. The artwork and visual effects were also quite remarkable. Why do they make such a big deal about Disney’s Treasure Planet blending computer animation with traditional animation, when Japanese Animators have been doing it for YEARS?
This Week:
This week is basically going to be spent tying up loose ends. I have to provide information and documentation to allow my CIGNA colleagues to effectively pickup where I left off with this current project. I am probably not as prepared as I should be for the next term at Drexel. I was on campus a few weeks back for that CIGNA meeting, but have been a stranger to campus since then. When I was there in December for the Lewis Black show, I noticed they had made a lot of cosmetic improvements to the campus, so it might not be a terrible place to chill during the spring, though I will probably be hunting down the AC when the summer arrives. Aside from ordering my books and registering for classes, I really haven’t taken many other steps to prepare, unless you want to count ordering a Wireless Compact Flash card for my PocketPC to connection to the Drexel DragonFly 802.11b network. Everyone knows that is just a little perk for me. I have been thinking about reapplying to the honors program during this coming term. They [the honors program] recently established their own college, and I am more than qualified academically. I failed to get in as a freshman because I wrote a god-awful application essay. I suppose I owe it to myself to apply again. I should probably do a test run on the public transportation system, just to make sure everything occurs the way I think it does before the first day of classes. Unfortunately, I do not have any free days during the business week to experiment, unless my VT trip gets pushed back a few days. I guess I will just have to leave a little early on Monday the 31st (my first day of classes) and hope for the best.
My Job Search:
I am also looking for work. If anyone knows anyone hiring bartenders let me know. I need to keep the money flowing while I’m in school despite the hampering effects of a 19 credit schedule that demands I be in the city 5-days a week. Bartending seems the easiest way to quick money, and a relatively flexible part-time schedule. However, I have also been investigating other part-time opportunities that are somewhat related to my field of study, that would, allow me to extend my resume in a way that will benefit me in the future. I do love bartending, but it’s not going to be the key to landing a slick job at a fortune 500, or elsewhere for that matter. Though I must admit it acts as a pretty good ice breaker during interviews. Nevertheless, I am anxious to find some way to spend my time when I’m not in class, as I do not wish to watch my bank account slowly drain over the next 6 months. As long as I keep money going in, I should be able to break even, or maybe even declare a gain. In light of this current search, all comments relating to potential work are welcome (see
resume).
Tuesday @ CIGNA & Beyond!:
CIGNA is having some “farewell” dinner for us tomorrow at the Liberty Building in Philadelphia. It starts pretty early, so I am going to have to leave the Voorhees Office for Philly around 3:30ish. I am thinking about taking the speed line, since it stops about 2 blocks from Liberty Plaza. After the dinner I may head down to Drexel to test my Pocket PC Wireless Card. I know, I know… yes, you can say UBER-GEEK. The fact of the matter is that there are all kinds of little setting you have to have right in order for it to work properly. I would like to work out these kinks before classes start. I’m intrigued by the whole wireless campus thing… so sue me. I’m an information science major for christ’s sake, I’m SUPPOSED to be pushing the technological envelope. That’s a cool way of saying I like to play with new gadgets. WE’LL SEE WHO IS LAUGHING WHEN YOU FIND YOURSELF CALMORING FOR ANY PIECE OF TECHNOLOGICAL KNOW HOW!!!
Is He Still Talking?:
…aghem… sorry about that. So yea, I’m going to try to keep you all posted as this week ticks by. If problems arise concerning VT, you may see a less conservative use of language in future posts. Though when you consider both the recently warm weather, and the time of the month I am requesting a room, it is doubtful that I will encounter any bumps in the road. I’m keeping my fingers crossed anyway, sometimes the ineptitude of the owner’s services staff is simply intolerable.
Ok, that about does it for me. Sorry about the sporadic topics flying all over the place in this entry, but I don’t edit these things, so deal. I will try to post a little more often this week, and maybe cram in some more pictures.
