William was leaned back on the sofa of his study, book held loosely in his hand as he flipped the pages. It had been a bit of a long day and now he felt due for a little relaxing. This was quite possibly his

It wasn't too terrible, either. She'd have to find out more about it.
On a mission for a bit of wax to seal a letter to her brother, she rounded the corner and strode into the office-like room and halted.
"William," she said quietly, putting on a somewhat awkward smile. "I apologize for interrupting," she added quickly, sidestepping to a large desk. "I wasn't aware you were in here."
She inwardly cringed; when would she stop feeling the need to treat her husband like an acquaintance?

"Would you like to sit?" he offered, moving over slightly to make room, in case she did want to sit down. His tone was a bit formal, but that was just him really. He didn't mean to sound as cold as he probably came across.

"If it's all right," she replied, nodding once before stepping forward and then sinking down slowly onto the sofa. She cast him an unsure smile, then fiddled with the letter in her hands.
"I'd been trying to finish this letter all day," she told him, looking down at it warmly. "I suppose I was so thrilled when I signed my name that I wanted wax as soon as possible."
She felt like she was babbling. Was she babbling?! It was highly likely.

He did glance curiously at the parchment in her hands, nodding as she explained before he could ask about it. "There's wax i the middle drawer of my desk," he offered helpfully. "You're welcome to it."
He fell silent, then, searching for something to help put the girl at ease. They were married, they should be able to have a not awkward conversation, even if there wasn't the traditional love between them. It was going to be a long and boring marriage if they didn't figure out how to relate to one another better.

She was mostly agitated with herself for enjoying his company.
Arianna didn't know why she felt herself blushing at him sometimes, instead of feeling resentment or blaming him for taking away her options in life (not that it was his sole doing).
She should have hated him and had a bitter, angry marriage. Wouldn't that have been better than this awkward, courting-stage-feeling arrangement?
"Thank you," she replied, giving him a nod and a small smile. "I'll be sure to seal it before I leave." She pursed her lips, silently adding that she didn't know when that would be, since their conversation was currently anything but thrilling.

"You're welcome," he told her, pausing slightly before adding a polite inquiry after the girl's family. It was only right to ask after them and it seemed like something they might be able to talk about.
Yes, if there's one thing they could agree on, it was that this whole being awkward thing was not enjoyable at all. He wished they could get past this to being comfortable around each other.

She shook her head, knowing that her brothers did so love talking about themselves; for them to bother asking her about herself, then they must have not had anything extraordinary to discuss regarding their own lives.
She went on to tell him that Armand was having a lovely time at the school, despite staying within spitting distance of what he called the Riffraff League of Aurors. It was easy to see in that moment, that Arianna was not nearly as prim, proper, and subdued as she seemed.

He smiled warmly at her as she answered his question, nodding at all the right moments, chuckling at the more amusing anecdotes.
"I'm glad," he told her, smiling again. "That they're all well, of course, I mean. I do feel for Armand being stuck at that school."
But, with any luck, things would improve around there soon, wouldn't they? They certainly seemed to be going according to plans so far.
