My "Arrow" 6x02 Recap
I'll catch you up on related events in the Arrowverse. So, on “The Flash,” Barry and Iris are surprised by the headlines that Ollie has been exposed as the Green Arrow. They also mention that Laurel's death hit them hard. I didn't know they were that close? Also, someone was killed trying to buy a loft that looked a lot like Felicity's. Elsewhere, on DC's Legends of Tomorrow, Ava finds a picture of pre-island Ollie, Laurel and Sara together. Sara has it prominently displayed in the Waverider which is a surprise. Everyone wants to remember their old love triangle?
At the Mayor's office, Ollie faces the press. He denies being the Green Arrow. He jokingly accuses Bruce Wayne of being the Green Arrow. He privately tasks Quentin and Rene with finding out who leaked the photo. He doesn't want to be distracted from the Markovian delegation. In his office, he meets FBI agent, Samanda Watson. He brings up that he was already cleared of being a vigilante. Samantha said he was cleared of being a different vigilante (thanks to Roy's sacrifice) and the person who cleared him now works for him. Rene finds out the info came from the channel 52 news office. They speculate this is something Chase set up before he died. Ollie mentions that William went to school despite the craziness. Side Note: I think it goes without saying that Bruce Wayne is Batman. Ollie also name checks Gotham.
At the Arrow Cave, Curtis starts tossing out ideas for how to get Ollie out of being Arrow. They suggest Diggle or the Human Target pretend to be him again. The Human Target is out of town. Felicity thinks they should figure out who is targeting them first. She mentions she'll need money soon since her Palmer Tech money finally ran out. Perhaps because she is keeping such a fancy apartment? Why is she still living there after the breakup? Ollie couldn't even afford that place. Curtis mentions he does freelance coding. He thought everyone had secret jobs. He wonders how Diggle makes his money. Felicity says Diggle lives off of Lyla's income. Seems right. Let her bring home the bacon. Anyway, Felicity's hurt that Curtis got a secret job.
At a warehouse, Ollie and Quentin tell the press about the Markovian Initiative. It is to use delegates to bring new jobs to the city. All the press wants to talk about is the Green Arrow. Ollie continues to deny. There is a shoot out. Quentin and Ollie put people in a car and drive out. They hit gun men on the way. They are finally stopped by Anatoly. He takes the Markovian delegates hostage. I guess they are just business people bringing jobs and this is to make them seem more important than they are. Side Note: In the comics, there is a superhero prince of Markovia.
At the Mayor's office, they begin to suspect Anatoly was the one who revealed Ollie as the Green Arrow. Quentin and Ollie try to do damage control. The delegates are held hostage for 20 million dollars. Ollie leaves to go pick up his son. Could it be that it is Vigilante? I've seen theories that Earth 2 Tommy is Vigilante but it could be Bethany Snow since she works for the news. Or it could be the mysterious new big bad who rescued Earth 2 Laurel and perhaps has the resources to own a news station.
At the Arrow Cave, Curtis found the money supply for Anatoly. It's electronic. They lead Ollie to the delegate. It's super lucky that happened to be electronic.
In the limo, William has a black eye. Older kids beat him up because they wanted to beat up the Green Arrow's kid. Ollie tells William to break the biggest kid's nose if it ever happens again. Not a full proof plan. What if someone wants to defend their friend and beats him up harder? Ollie leaves to go find the delegates.
At a restaurant, Team Arrow starts taking on Anatoly's guys. Spartan hesitates to shoot again. Why is BC Dinah the only one who notices this? Green Arrow rescues three of the four hostages. One was moved.
At the Mayor's office, Team Arrow monitors surveillance footage. Anatoly took one hostage somewhere. Ollie gets ready to head to the FBI. Felicity suggests he bring all the lawyers but he doesn't want to look suspicious. Kids, always lawyer up. At the last minute, Ollie has to see William.
At the FBI office, Rene and Quentin try to make small talk with Watson. They say Ollie can't make it because he's a new father. Apparently, they told everyone baby mama Samantha died in a car accident. Why does Samanda need to be talking about Samantha? Is it so William can have a “you remind me of my mom” moment? Watson threatens to arrest both Quentin and Rene if she finds out they are involved with the Green Arrow. Also, is Watson a Sherlock shout out?
At Ollie's place, William beats up his backpack because he's off superheroes. He doesn't want to learn how to fight. People always trying to kill Oliver. He is worried that he will lose both of his parents. Ollie remembers how it feels to lose parents. He promises it won't happen because he can handle anything. Anatoly calls. Anatoly has been kicked out of the Bratva. He has poisoned the hostage and will give him the cure if Ollie gives him 20 million dollars of city money. Ollie calls Team Arrow to get a cure. So, how much money does Ollie personally have anymore? Because that feels like a way around this.
At the hospital, Dinah and Diggle get the cure. The doctor asks Diggle how he's doing. She leaves. Dinah asks Diggle what's up with him again, some more. He finally admits he got degenerative nerve damage in the island explosions. He didn't mention it at the time because Samantha and Thea were worse off. He doesn't mention it now because he believes he can handle it. Dinah points out Rene got shot off a bridge because Diggle couldn't draw his gun. Dinah doesn't want to lie. Diggle asks her to trust him. She doesn't despite the fact that in the last episode we found out she was lying for Quentin for no reason for months. Also, how did Diggle hide that he was injured all the way back home?
At the Arrow Cave, Felicity tries to get work with Curtis but he turns her down. Her tech speak throughout the episode was a little off. Or so I've heard. They find something suspicious. They also find Anatoly's location.
At the Mayor's office, Rene tells Ollie that Watson wants to interrogate William. Ollie admits he lied to William when he promised he would always come back because he doesn't know if that's true. Rene says it's okay to lie to your kid sometimes. He used a weird example instead of Santa Claus. Ollie says his son could lose him to death or have to lie for him to keep him out of prison. They go to fight Anatoly.
At a ship yard, Team Arrow attacks. Spartan can't fire off a shot to help BC Dinah and she has to save herself. Green Arrow gives the delegate the cure. Anatoly kills the delegate since he didn't get the money. Ollie asks when Anatoly got so terrible. Anatoly says if really was terrible, he would've just gone after William and it's a matter of time until someone else does. Green Arrow goes to kill Anatoly but can't go through with it. Anatoly says didn't leak the picture. Their dynamic has gotten so weird.
At the FBI, Ollie tells Samantha that William is off limits. He gets vaguely threatening. That'll help the situation. Another agent enters and turns on the news. It turns out the photo of Ollie was digitally doctored. Watson is not dropping her investigation. How is the FBI going to approve spending funds on no evidence? Someone also pointed out that Ollie was thanked by the President for saving the world from aliens which would lessen the charges against him presumably.
At Felicity's apartment, Felicity and Curtis celebrate finding out the photo was a digital alteration. Curtis points out that it means someone was trying to frame Oliver. Felicity ignores that point to ask Curtis to start a company with her. He agrees. Seems like a weird road to get there but fine.
At the Arrow Cave, Diggle admits he was wrong and Dinah nearly got killed because of it. She's not mad but she wants him to take action. She picks this of all times to be chill? When she almost died? Diggle agrees to be honest with Oliver.
At Ollie's place, Ollie apologizes to William for making a promise he can't keep. He does promise to be a good dad and to get out of trouble. William invites him to play video games. Ollie agrees even though William doesn't know what game he's playing. How does that even happen?
At the Arrow Cave, Ollie asks Diggle to become the Green Arrow. He has to stay safe for William's sake. Since this is TV, Diggle accepts this offer without disclosing he can't fight. I wonder what will happen next. Also, as many have pointed out, Ollie quit being the Green Arrow because he has a son and is passing the responsibility to Diggle... who has a son and a wife. Cool. But Diggle is risking his life as Spartan anyway. As we know, there is a future where Diggle's son could become the Green Arrow so that's an interesting bit of legacy business. Someone pointed out that if Dinah and Diggle got together now, it would be a Green Arrow/ Black Canary pairing which is actually pretty funny but should not happen! Someone also said it would be cool if Thea became the Arrow down the line and I agree!
