My "Arrow" 5x20 Recap
We open after the explosion. It was an EMP. It means Felicity's spinal implant won't work. Also, Olicity are trapped inside without any tech or anyway out. Luckily, her chair is there for whatever reason. Perhaps for any Team Arrow member knocked down in the line of duty?
11 Months Ago, we flashback to Felicity trying to get Ollie to recruit a new team. Ollie is happy with just her. Curtis interrupts to help them track a bad guy. It proves Felicity's point. After they catch the bad guy, Curtis reveals his incorrect suspicions that Olicity are already back together. Felicity says she dumped Ollie because he doesn't trust her. Curtis has somehow tricked Ollie into picking up Chinese food and bringing it to the bunker. He also mentions there is wine. Olicity has dinner. Ollie tries teaching Felicity the salmon ladder. They have sex. Felicity's hair is somehow still perfect. Felicity says they're not back together. She says Ollie doesn't trust her, doesn't trust anyone and that's why they can't be together. She can't keep waiting for him to change. The next day they apologize to each other and promise to talk in the future. So, they had a talk to agree to talk?
At the present Mayor's Office, Quentin is trying to stop all of Adrian's convictions from being overturned. Olicity is also missing. Put a pin in this because it's the last we hear of it for now.
Curtis overhears Ollie trying to break out of the Arrow Cave. Ollie speculates that Adrian trapped them in there to do something out there. Ollie reveals that he thinks William is the next target. Felicity wants to send out a signal to the team. Ollie wants to climb out of the elevator shaft. Felicity tells him not to since it's likely booby trapped. Ollie does it anyway and immediately gets hurt. Felicity sews up his wound and points out that she warned him what would happen and he didn't trust her again. Ollie offers to try things her way. They are able to power up and get a signal but it explodes, leaving them in a dangerous position. Ollie points out he was right not to support Helix. Felicity points out that Ollie joined the Bratva to stop a bigger bad and didn't back her doing the same thing. There are a lot of mentions here of Cisco building the Arrow Cave. Cisco can teleport. Barry Allen can phase. Literally no one thought to call either of them to pull Olicity out of the bunker. It would've taken literally five minutes after Curtis realized they were in there.
At Diggle's place, Lyla is fine with her choices but Diggle isn't. She says they are both in the morally grey but Diggle doesn't like the comparison. Curtis, Rene and Dinah show up, immediately aware that they are fighting. They have to break up the fight to ask for backup. Lyla offers to supply anything they need to get out. She leaves. Again, remember when Ollie was like, killing for justice is okay but not for revenge! Like, Diggle last heard he was killing for Ollie's murder crusade but Lyla's ops are bad because... she has government funding? I'm not saying Lyla is in the right or that Ollie is leading a murder crusade. Just, it's weird when they split hairs like this.
Outside the Arrow Cave, Diggle, Rene, Curtis and Dinah try to get into the Arrow Cave. Dinah privately tells Diggle that maybe couples sometimes have to hide things from each other. Weird advice. Lyla arrives with the gear they need. Curtis and Rene try to break into the bunker. An explosion throws them off. They try melting the door but it will take too long. Curtis can't use his t-spheres because they're in the bunker. Lyla shows up. She took the design for Curtis's t-spheres and “improved” them. Diggle says she stole them. Lyla gives Diggle a file of everything she has done since taking over A.R.G.U.S.. She asks why he backs all of Ollie's plays but not hers. Diggle hadn't considered that. She wants him too since she always supports him. Weird they don't give him an answer here.
Inside the Arrow Cave, they only have 20 minutes of air left. Ollie finds a steam tunnel. Felicity helps him blow the door off. Ollie has to carry Felicity through the tunnel. He collapses. He admits to her that he trusts her but doesn't trust himself. He hates that everyone he loves joins his cause for killing. He passes out but comes back around. Felicity said he spent 10 years in hell but isn't a monster which is proof of what a good person he is. Ollie disagrees. The t-spheres come in. The team say the Arrow Cave have a fail safe that will turn the power back on eventually. So, they could've been chilling this whole time? Anyway, once the power comes back on, there's a chance the Arrow Cave could explode due to all the damage Ollie and Felicity are doing. Olicity start to head out, with Felicity having to inject Ollie with adrenaline along the way. Diggle meets them halfway. They start to dangle over an edge. Felicity tells Ollie to drop her. He refuses to let her go. The team works together to pull Diggle, Felicity and Ollie up. They get out.
At A.R.G.U.S., Felicity is able to walk again. Ollie is out of surgery. Felicity apologizes. She realizes that her quest was not about being a hero. It was about revenge. She gets what it's like not to trust yourself now and forgives him. She tells him to start working on himself. A lot of people had a problem with the apology, especially since Miranda made Ollie lie. I guess he could've also just told Felicity and not told Miranda. I think Felicity just got a glimpse of how damaged he is and him finally working on himself will get them back together.
Elsewhere, Adrian finds William as predicted. First of all, Ollie saw this coming so are they on the hunt for William or not? Second of all, Miranda is super cautious about William, he was kidnapped once before, they changed his identity but he still rides the bus alone and talks to strangers? Poor planning.
