Well, I'm out of shape. Ride just over seventeen miles, and I'm tuckered out. My legs are sore, and I'm not sure tomorrow that I'll be completely cool with my relatively modest need to ride nine miles. However, I no longer think of the South Bay as pure suburban hell. you're much more of an optimist than i am then. i really don't believe that india, pakistan, or iran, (or north korea for that matter), are interested in stability, i think all their political clout stems from a lack of stability.
china is not as politically/economically fragile, but i really don't see their government as particularly willing to concede either.

that said, I haven't been following the news -at all- I'm quite lost in my little world of babies and toddlers, I'm embarassed to admit.

Based on what you've written, I'm intrigued by Obama's approach, I do believe that transparency can lead to stability, assuming that stability and the status quo are the desired goal for all parties.

I don't think any defence strategy is lost by an official qualified promise not to strike first. It's simply stating what has been the status quo since the Cold War. "Interesting game. The only way to win is not to play." Surely that movie has been translated into a few dozen languages already?

Thanks for this post, it's nice to stick my head out every once in a while.
Hopefully, I'll get around to researching some more articles on this.
