Far Off Dawn was one of my favourite songs six or seven years ago, at least as far as lyrics went. Unfortunately, both Zechs and Treize only have the one image song apiece, so they're sharing a post. For the record, Far Off Dawn is Zechs' song and Stardust Soldiers/Stellar Soldiers is Treize's.
I actually wanted to include Une's Brightness and Darkness in this post because all three are thematically linked, but that would leave Dorothy's Joy To My Life completely stranded so I'll be doing those two tomorrow.
All punctuation in Far Off Dawn is from the original copy I have. I would never punctuate like that and I have no idea what the deal is with the five hyphens in a row, but I guess that's a personal thing. Treize's song here is a good example of a song whose translator very likely spoke English as a second language--it's very poetic, the phrasing is sometimes stunning, but it's so terribly awkward and disjointed that it doesn't... always make the sense that it easily could have. This is one of those songs that make me want to attempt a revised translation on my own. Still, I think you can make out the meaning just fine.
Far Off Dawn
Faint memories remain in my mind
Save yesterday, like a broken song
Searching for the true future, a lonely traveller.
My heart is crying, eyes (are) gazing at me - Who are you?
I only can fight: with my dream concealed ----- Far Off Dawn.
I forgot my face under the mask
Like endless darkness that covers everything
The morning grows embraced by peace
Is the colour of blood that is from the soldiers.
I am looking for the future
That cannot be expected by anybody - Who are you?
Pale flame that colours the sky ----- Far Off Dawn.
With a wish that would not be granted,
I start on a journey to the sky all by myself.
My heart is crying, eyes are gazing at me - Who are you?
I only can fight, with my dream concealed ----- Far Off Dawn.
I am looking for the future
That cannot be expected by anybody - Who are you?
Pale flame that colours the sky ----- Far Off Dawn.
Stellar Soldiers
Thoughts that I would not put into words,
Shall I tell the stars that are fading out?
I would go my way that I believed all alone.
It is not as simple as what we call "dreams"
I would not regret even if I lose my life.
Song of breeze shakes my heart
I would close my eyes for now,
And forget about the time that goes on.
Flames colour the dark sky
Burn everything, and let them go back to (the) calmness.
A flower that I don't even know its name
Is being enveloped in the fires of war
There is only one justice;
In the winner's hand.
It cannot avoid complications,
Not like when we look for opur future
I would not hesitate even if I made somebody cry.
Song of breeze consoles me
It is enough for me if I can remember the smiles.
The stars that are twinking in the dark sky
Are the legendary soldiers that died sometime.
Song of breeze shakes my heart
I would close my eyes for now,
And forget about the time that goes on.
Flames that colour the sky
Burn everything, and let them go back to (the) calmness.
