Agreed! Not killing Lafayette is one of the best changes the show made. I didn't start watching until season two, and I'm damn glad because the "Is Lafayette dead?" cliffhanger would have been an unpleasant year. Hilariously, for both the season two and three cliffhangers, I was like, "Oh show, I am so not worried," but THAT cliffhanger would have been nail biting.

Yeah, poor Eggs was doomed to die so they could keep Tara in a world of pain. God forbid that character ever be allowed to be happy.

Yup - that's Sookie's cousin Hadley. Hadley is one of those elements that is right out of the books, but much earlier. There is a lot of that going on in Season Two and Three - they are bringing storylines in and revealing plot details far more quickly. Hilariously, there is something that happens in episode 3.7 that made Bookies everywhere, including Jacob from TWOP, nearly fall over and die in a state of panic. I cannot wait till you get there so I can tell all about it, because OMFG!

Eric - here is the thing, I will admit, I am highly biased by the books. I've read all ten, and I know how much love and loyalty that character is capable of. It's interesting watching the show, because on the one hand, they are being very ambiguous, showing us some really nasty shit that makes him seem scary and bad, but on the other, starting with Godric, they are slowly revealing the true heart and soul of the character.

The people in his basement - that was gross, and was meant to be gross and disturbing. At the same time - it wasn't for shits and giggles, that's his job - to protect the vampires in his area. No one innocent is locked up down there. They are drainers, generally vampire killers. The guy he rips apart murdered three vampires and one human. Lafayette was a v-dealer and the number one suspect in Eddie's death. It's a different kind of morality, but it is one with rules that he does live by.

What I will say is look at all the characters that love him. Godric - we love Godric and Godric loves Eric, and Eric was on his motherfucking knees weeping over the loss. The relationship he has with Pam that is revealed in the third season. His Viking band who refused to leave him when he was dying. And his family - who you will see in flashbacks in the third season. He is a much loved character - and it is all in very healthy relationships. It is all being set up for a reason - and that is to make you like him more. To convince us that despite all of Bill's protestations to the contrary, Eric is actually worthy.

The one change that bothered me was his calling Lorena. In the books he does not meddle with Bill and Sookie's relationship... because he doesn't have to. He waits patiently for Bill to screw that up all on his own. Eric stays close by, swoops in when Sookie needs him, makes out with her when he has the opportunity, and occasionally points out how much more awesome he happens to be. And that's how he behaves throughout all Sookie's other suitors. He actually even apologizes when she is hurt by the other men in her life.

Lorena is in the books - but that's another instance where they took a few sentences and made a huge glorious meal. I'm glad they did, because she's fascinating. What I suspect happened is they wanted to bring her in, and Eric was the only way they could think of to do it early. But I hate it, because it makes him look far more manipulative and weak that he usually is.

I FINISHED. Season 3, anyway.

1. Sam did not kill his brother. He just...didn't, okay? I refuse to believe it, even though that last episode totally made him into a shit.

2. I completely love Lafayette/Jesus, and if that turns out to be weird and go southward, I will be seriously annoyed.

3. Jason = Xander, and Tara = Dawn, yes? In that so far, they're the only normal ones.

So! That was fun. When's season 4 start?
