I like to smoke and drink...a lot. Yeah, of course I know it's not good for me, but that's what freedom is all about...right? I have the freedom to make a few bad choices. I have freedom of religion. I have the freedom to protect my family and my property from people that might want to steal it from me, with deadly force if necessary. Thus the freedom to own a gun and ammunition. If you live in Washington D.C. you don't have that freedom. The gun must be disassembled and not loaded. Well, that's all fine and good until the criminals that don't have to follow the laws break into your house to rape your wife and steal your shit. Then they kill you. Maybe you don't understand it, but criminals do not have to follow the rules.
The point being that freedom is quickly becoming a thing of the past. I use the example of smoking in this article and that's why I mentioned it earlier. It used to be that you had to buy tobacco and then roll it yourself into a cigarette, or put it in a pipe and smoke it. Then later on someone created a way to manufacture a cigarette that was already rolled and in a package that you could buy at the store. That lasted for a number of years until the tobacco companies started getting sued and LOST to people who were stupid enough to smoke their entire lives. Maybe not stupid, but I don't believe anyone that smokes doesn't realize it's bad for your health.
The state of smoking cigarettes these days is this: It's legal. So it's a freedom that I enjoy in a free country. Remember that Hitler was a big anti-smoking Nazi. Kind of like the anti-smoking Nazis that we have in many places in the US these days. The taxes are remarkable on cigarettes. In most cases, the price of a pack of smokes is around half of the retail price or even more.
The worst thing now is the FSC. Fire Safe Cigarettes. They actually put some kind of glue in the paper that has ethylene vinyl acetate in it. Do you know what that is or does to your body? Neither do I and neither does the consumer product safety commission. They just make sure it's there to save us from burning down our houses. Who cares what it does to you in the long term if you inhale it. The government that is out to save us from ourselves doesn't even know what it will do to you.
So to the regression part... I have had to start manufacturing my own cigarettes at home. Why am I doing this? Part of the reason is to avoid SOME taxes on the tobacco. I still have to pay taxes on it, just not as much. Think "Boston tea party." Obama has already signed a bill into law that will increase the tax on a pack of cigarettes around a dollar a pack. That doesn't include state taxes that can be as much as $4.00 a pack.
The main reason I manufacture my own is because of the FSC regulations. The paper I buy does not have the fire safe materials in them. I have noticed MUCH less coughing and irritation since switching over a week ago from mass produced cigarettes. The FSC has only been around for a month or so in Texas and I noticed I was getting sick from smoking. It was from the government mandated fire safe cigarettes!
The point is this: You might think smoking is stupid and you would be right. It's not the smartest choice in the world, but it does provide some pleasure to the user. So does eating at Mcdonald's, Jack in the box, IHOP, Denny's or any other restaurant that serves fat laden meals with a smile. You can also include Cracker Barrel (one of my favorites), Chili's and outback steakhouse to the list. I like to eat at those places sometimes. How long will it be until a federal tax is levied on those businesses because they make people obese? How long until they're banned because it's "bad for you." How long until your religion is banned because it's just not acceptable. How long until the "fairness doctrine" is implemented by the Democrats who are trying to push that one through? That would get rid of Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity and the other usual suspects who are against tyranny.
Just understand that our freedom is in jeopardy. If you don't believe it then you haven't been reading the news. Hell, it might as well be in big red letters on billboards to me, but I see it everywhere. I use the example of smoking because it's a freedom that is being taken away. How long will it be until other freedoms are taken away? We are regressing as a society. If we weren't then I would be able to buy a pack of cigarettes at a decent price without "unknown" chemicals in them that were mandated by the government that is supposed to keep me safe. I would also be allowed to smoke said tobacco products OUTSIDE of my office building in the courtyard...legally. It's a sad state of affairs my friends. I can see the tyranny, but it seems to be welcomed with wild applause.
