Eleven Benevolent Elephants

Well...it's bums on seats time. The Digital Refinery is officially off the ground with yours truly as Technical Director/Guru-in-chief. If anyone's in the market for high-class DVD Authoring (with complicated interactivity a forté) we are *so* there. Please, call us. We rock

If you were thinking of registering the domain names TOO LATE! We don't have them either, so we've settled for thedigitalrefinery.com. If anyone actually calls us by the 'the' as be surprised, mind. There's no website there yet, but through judicious use of CityDesk we'll have content management coming out of our ass in no time.

Speaking of which, CityDesk is just complex enough to be very useful, and simple enough to not give you ongoing headaches once you've got it running. And seeing as it's the guy who convinced me to buy Peopleware (go get a copy *now*) it's got my respect. It's also much nicer to use than the web-based content management system we built at ZOO, which was a hell of a lot more useful and nicer after xurble basically recoded the whole thing. But that was over 3 years ago, and CityDesk would have cost about £20K back then in the early days before Open Source came along and made everyone realise that software wasn't *that* hard to write, really. At least not if you didn't mind waving a dead chicken over the keyboard now and again.

In other news. X-Men 2 is very worthy. What impressed me was that it made me care emotionally in a chick-flick kinda way at a couple of points. Spiderman sure as shit didn't manage that, and not many chick-flicks have either recently, so kudos to the production team.

UGC says it's cinemagoers recommend "To Kill A King". They didn't in the preview showing I was in. The best it did with anyone was "Historically Accurate" and "Informative", the worst would have been "Sucks the sweat off the devil's balls." but that wasn't on the feedback form.

In conclusion, I'd say that I wish I'd become a laptop user much sooner than I did. It's quite liberating, and builds your arm muscles to boot. Kinda like masterbation.
