I saw the preview for the Prince of Persia movie.
1. The actor playing the Prince is white. Like, not even questionably white, rediculously white. There is no attempt to even try to conceal that this man is white. He has not tried to tan for the role and there's no hint of make-up or effect to try to make him look like he is anything but a white man. That said; he is enthusiastic about the role and has put on about 5lb. of muscle weight for the movie so that he can do a lot of his own stunts. He also sounds like the Prince. He seems like he'd be a good enough actor, and except for the whole...being pale as a vampire thing...looks the part enough. I just wish that they had had enough sense to at least tell him to go get a tan.
2. ...They have given the Prince a name. I feel like that is completely unecessary, and it kind of pisses me off a little(a lot). Why would you do that Disney, why?!
3. Disney. Disney is doing this film. On the one hand, this means a ton of PoP merchandise for my consumer self to hoard. On the other hand- this might mean pussifying the Prince. My greatest fear is that they'll have a hand in the development of future games and them being targeted toward a younger audiencce.
The movie looks like it's based mostly off the Sands of Time game, which was admittedly a lot tamer than the latter games, so I guess it's alright if it ends up being that way. This also leaves it open for sequels however, which I won't be sure how I feel about until I've seen this one and the public reaction to it.
I'm also hoping that it doesn't go following the Hollywood format and he ends up happilly ever after with the girl. There's a reason he has a different love interest in each game(aside from the fact that he's a total pimp).
I love the PoP games, seriously, like a lot, favorite games ever, like more than a friend. I don't have any of the new gaming systems so I havn't been able to play the latest game yet(which is eating me away inside) but I'm replaying my ps2 games in preparation for this shenanigans.
